appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities The mind boggles. I know Sioux Falls is slow(ish) but they gotta have something better than this. |
||
| muddythinker How did the radiologist shoot someone even though he didn't own a weapon? He used a rent gun. |
||
| Cuchulane Some kind of pandering by the Mayor, hopefully the constituents will see right through such a farce. |

Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether has proclaimed next week "National Radiologic Technology Week." That's a little hard to swallow. |

It's time for a CSB! Patients at nursing homes and various other locations have to be transported, sometimes via ambulance, to a location for an x-ray. It can be somewhat costly. Somebody got the idea of using a portable x-ray machine and taking the machine to the patients. Your hospital does this too for patients who can't get out of bed. So load one in a van, and take it to the location, do the x-rays, return and develop the film. Sounds like a plan right? It worked just fine right up until there was an accident involving the transport van. Now I'm going to assume that most of you know x-ray machines produce radiation but only for a short distance, for a short period of time, and only when turned on and actually being used. The part in bold is the important thing. Naturally the police show up, take one look inside the van, see the 'radiation' sticker on the x-ray machine and it's a natural disaster that requires closing off the intersection. Yes, they did know it was an x-ray machine even before they saw the stickers, and yes, people did try to tell them how it worked. |

randomjsa: It can be somewhat costly. How costly would it be if the machine broke in transit? Such as, say, during a wreck. In other words, don't be like these guys. |

I'm down with this! |

randomjsa: That doesn't surprise me at all. People hear RADIATION and they lose all common sense. It's like their IQs drop 80 points just because of a sticker. You should see all the nurses that run and hide when I come to their wards. Once you understand a thing, it ceases to be frightening. |
||
| Cuchulane Sounds like a PET project. |

Are there too many people in the room for you do get the image done? Just say "X-ray!" really loud and you have the room to yourself. |

When you think of all the good to come from X-rays, even if you discount the medical uses, the uses in engineering and materials research and safety is impressive. |

Vertdang: Clemkadidlefark: [static.dangerousminds.net image 465x330] Fakes, but still neat looking. Shopped yes, but they are from an x-ray equipment vendor's yearly calendar. |

I saw an interview with the guy that does these. he takes a regular model photo, makes it translucent and then has a 3d modeling program that places the fake bones in the same positions. then he makes both translucent. It was really cool. |
