I doubt there will ever be a nuclear powered carrier museum ship. They are essentially built around their reactors which will have to be removed.

Considering the WWII version of the Enterprise (probably the most decorated ship of the war) was scrapped. I guess Im not to surprised.

Why can't they turn it into a museum?

The irradiated reactors are going to hot for centuries, and now they propose to rip them out and bury them in the ground somewhere. Why not have a vigilant eye on them as part of a museum?

It would be pretty easy to just close a few doors and keep the people out of the reactor rooms. Maybe even go as far as to fill the rooms with spray foam to keep it that way.

That seems like a terrible design...if the plane that's just landing does a bolt or a touch-and-go, it's going to go straight into the intake of that fan.There's probably a pretty massive air current there too, because the fan is holding the carrier in the air.

With modern planes having V-take off abilities. I don't think that needs to be addressed any more. An F-35 can be used on the Helicarrier.

Well, scrap iron is about $0.16 per pound. Doing the math -> $29 million .

And yet, even with iron worth next-to-nothing, if I leave a good desk/table by the street for someone to take and use... Well, the farking Mexican scrappers will come rip the legs off just for the $0.30 of iron, rendering the rest unusable. farking scrappers.

Maybe the Captain and it's command crew will hijack it for one last mission and blow it up in off limit territories in an attempt to turn death into a fighting chance to live.
