No. Banners are designed to be held up with ropes. There's no symbolism there. If you take an object and then say "this object represents Obama" then hang it from a tree don't be surprised when people link it to a lynching. Whether it was his intention or not, It's not a long bow to draw and he really should know better.

Want to make a statement? Put a chair with a sign saying" four more years" on your own property.
