Well subby I've heard that Realistic sound gear is the shizz. Every audiophile knows this. |

They sell phones now. /You still can go in and pick up a soldier gun |

I went there to get solder the other day, and somebody was actually buying a cellphone from them. It felt odd. |

Radio Shack is still around because they make their profit off of protection plans, additional warranties, and batteries. Have you seen their battery section? Sure, they have batteries for just about any device you can think of, but they're way overpriced. Mainly because all of their merchandise is 'batteries not included'. So they want you to go ahead and pick up their overpriced batteries while you're there. And then while you pick up your batteries and check out -- they try to get you to buy protection plans that you'll probably never end up using. |

FTA: A 47-year-old Chicago man involved in a one-hour standoff... When police confronted Taylor he put a 9mm semi-automatic gun in his mouth prompting the standoff with police and S.W.A.T. team members. Police were able to talk him into surrendering without injuring himself, Kaufmann said. A convicted felon put a loaded weapon in his own mouth and it caused an hour long standoff?!? That's 59 minutes more than I would have waited. |
||
| evilgreg He probably just wanted to get his confidential file from their secret servers. Why do you need my name and address? I'm buying batteries. /old joke is old |

I picked up a 48 pack of AAs for $16 while I was there. I think they are rebounded Rayovac. |

Rebranded....ugh |

| dittybopper "You've got questions, we've got cellphones." I worked at a Radio Shack for about a month back in the early 1990's. Seems like it would have been the perfect job for a young ham radio/computer geek. Radio Shack was still selling ham gear back then*. Then I learned a couple of things: Customers are generally idiots with little knowledge of what they are buying, and my job wasn't to educate them, but to sell to them whether it was precisely what they needed or not. *Hit and miss: Some of their stuff, like the HTX-202 2 meter handheld, HTX-100 10 meter rig, and the 2 meter 5/8ths wave magmount antenna were pretty darn good. Then you had abortions like the HTX-252 2 meter rig. |

I'm amazed that they were able to figure out what he was saying and how to open the register. /you've got questions, they've got blank stares... |
||
| czetie The police found him after he put his name address on the mailing list on the way out. |

They're pretty much banking their future on cellphone sales at this point and to hell with the rest of the store. I picked up some PT work there a couple of years ago in the holidays (worst job ever, even for a couple of months) and the manager stated that verbatim. |

There are 2 Shacks near me, so ya they never left. It must be some kind of a front though because it's usually empty enough to rollerblade through. |
||
| krafty420 It was news to me that Radio Shack is still around. In Canada they've all been re-branded as "The Source" |

Since they ask for your address the perp should be easy to track down. /Had a Realistic boom box when I was kid. Miss the sound of those crackling straining speakers as I blasted Quiet Riot Metal-Health on it. |
||
| 182 subby, they sell batteries for your mother dildo. |
||
| Akuinnen
I think they were trying to court the DIY types last year, getting back into components and stuff like arduino. Not sure what became of that. |

doosh: Well subby I've heard that Realistic sound gear is the shizz. Every audiophile knows this. Radio Shack's home security systems are effective, because once the burglars see the "Protected by Radio Shack" stickers on your door, they won't bother breaking in to steal your Realistic electronics. |

The funniest Radio Shack around is the one up in Shawano, WI. It's like time warping back to the 80's or early 90's. They have a bunch of those OLD do-it-yourself electronic kits that have been sitting in the window so long they are all faded and ancient looking. They also have those HUGE laser printers from the late 80's/early 90's that are those huge/mega heavy ones and hilariously enough they are trying to sell all of that crap for top dollar! Like the old laser printers (used) they are trying to sell to people for $500! They aren't even wireless and hook up with parallel cords! Totally insane store, If you want a good giggle it's a fun store to visit. |

Hey now--they're still around (I live in south Louisiana). We've got one next door to one of our two Wal-Marts (which is conveniently located next to a buffet) and one in our local [rather sad] shopping mall. Also, one of my best drinking buddies works at the one near the Wal-Mart; he's ok with it, but then again he's also some kind of assistant manager. /Only thing I've bought from them was a cheap mobile phone pouch for my belt. |

Radio Shack was the only place that had the capacitors I needed to fix my TV. /suck it, haters. |

Yes, you make fun of Radio Shack until you absolutely need to have a certain connector or wire or part in an emergency. |

There are no radios at Radio Shack anymore. They do, however, have corded house telephones. Saw a 346 year old lady pricing one the other day when I stopped in to get some parts for a project that they no longer stock. It's a glorified cellphone store. |
||
| SwingDancer
For those of us who put together electronics projects of our own, Radio shack is a must. cant imagine how much i've bought out of those little trays over time, but i'm sure its alot. I Could order online, but that doesnt help me when i need something for a project i wanna finish today. |
||
| Revek You got questions? We got dumb looks. |

| scruffynerfherder
I always called them Radio shiat. |
||
| MrHappyRotter
Maybe he didn't rob them. Maybe he took their money and stuff, but left a mail-in rebate to get it all back. Then maybe Radioshack didn't submit the rebate in triplicate on a day of the month that happens to be a prime number greater than 11. Clearly, it's Radioshacks fault for sending in an invalid rebate form. |

No electronics techs here? Anyone ever needed a switch or a capacitor? Radio Shack is great for parts when I don't want to drive 60 miles to Fry's. |
||
| bungle_jr
i'm reminded almost every weekday of the continuing existence of the shack as i drive north on henderson and pass by the radio shack headquarters just south of the trinity river here in ft worth, tx |

Radio Shack is great for parts when I don't want to drive 60 miles to Fry's. when i moved back to the usa after being stationed in germany for 4+ years, all my electronics were dual-voltage, but with the euro-style plugs, and the shack was the only place i could find in or near my redneck town that had the outlet adapters to plug europlugs into american outlets |

Radio Shack still has issues...but, it's far more tolerable than Best Buy these days. Franchised Radio Shacks -- those owned by others but running their own stores -- are the best. They're less prone to annoy you by following you around trying to make you buy their cellphones or trying to sell warranties on batteries. They even threw in HDMI cables for my parents' new TV and installed it for free. Besides I can actually go in to a Radio Shack and ask an honest question about finding cables or TVs without being upsold. |

No disrespect to subby, but can a total farker tell me if any of these headlines that end with "in other news _______ is still around" or "in other news __________ is still alive" don't make it to liter land? Feels like these get instagreened. |

My local one has a smoking hot chick working at it. She seems to perpetually be up on a ladder, reorganizing or restocking items that are high up on the wall. I think the male managers might have something to do with that. |

I was building a computer and the harddrives I ordered didn't come with SATA cables; I had to go Radioshack to pick them up. Of course it would have been over half the price if I was smart enough to realize I should have just ordered them online in the first place with the drives...but RS had them. I opted out of the insurance on the cables though. |

things I've purchased from radio shack in the past 5 years: solder wire heat-shrink tubing toggle switch breadboard copper clad board ferric chloride test leads crimp-on wire connectors automotive relays sadly, their selection of components in the stores has been steadily dwindling. |

I worked at the Rat Shack for two soul sucking years. The only saving grace was that it was right next to a liquor store. |
