This is the problem here. The government isn't allowed to pull custody of native children. This is because the last time such a thing was tried, it ended very very badly, indeed.

Some are actually pretty nice but a lot comes down to the people living on them. I went to school near one. If you lived on the rez and were a tribal member you got free housing, education, healthcare, and money. And if you wanted a job you could work at the casino. The problem is since everything was free a lot of members were simply happy living on the rez and waiting for their checks. My buddy taught school out there for awhile and said most of the kids could barely read much less cared about an education because as soon as they were 18 they were set for life and never had to actually learn anything as long as they stayed on the rez. So they didn't, they would just put in their time to make the parents happy and quit as soon as they would let them. Hell what kid would keep going knowing that as soon as they turned 18 they had that check coming every month. And a lot of them do spend it on booze and drugs.

Meanwhile the leadership was basically enriching themselves off the rest of the casino profits. But as long as the members were fat and happy they couldn't care less. Kind of sad to see but it's their land and government so if that is what they want who am i to care.

Your sarcasm appears to mock it, but the legalize and rehabilitate model is actually the effective way to curb drug use. You stop paying people to lock your citizens into holes, and start trying to actually help and rehabilitate them, and by golly, people actually stop using.
