Yeah. I read that on my phone and was really glad the video wasn't working. Would prefer not to rewatch woman-obviously-having-a-involving-the -brain-medical-emergency-being-m ocked-as-drunk again.

Didn't realize it wasn't a stroke, though. Guess I learned something. Like how putting her in a list of "5 newscasters who humiliated themselves on-air" is still really f--king cruel.

Off topic, but salon's site has the smallest column width on any site I've ever been to. Its only about a quarter of the page.

Yeah, that one wasn't quite so funny.

Guess I'm just old, I find these too sad to watch. The one with the woman who had a stroke (or migraine, whatever the doc wanted to call it) was obviously in the wrong list, and the last broadcast of the woman who crashed and drowned? I guess there's too much creep-factor there for me.

Not defending Salon, but they say it wasn't a stroke, it was a form of migraine.

Shenanigans, Jessica Savitch was not driving, nor intoxicated, in the crash that killed her. The article doesn't state either, but heavily implies both.

They say it was due to complications from a specific type of migraine. If so it is similar to the ones my buddy gets. He can't find the words he needs and conversations become tricky. Always a fun time to engage him in conversation.

FTFA: Happily, it wasn't a stroke, but a special type of hereditary "complex migraine"-according to Branson's doctor. She was accepted back into the CBS fold, where she still works today.

and the followup Video

Ok Wiki'd Jessica Savitch and it's correct that she was not drunk or on drugs (or even caused the crash). Still find watching her last broadcast a little creepy and even sadder that THAT would be the last thing her viewers would see of her.

Apparently it wasn't a stroke, it was just the side effects of a Migraine. So, while it's still not fun laughing at someone for having a medical condition, at least it wasn't deadly or permanent, just scary for her.

Must have been. I don't know if I would have been paying much attention to a newscaster at that time, I think I would have been 9? (and here is where I prove I am too old to find the humor in this list.)

Australian TV host Karl Stephanovic gave a stellar drunk performance hosting the the breakfast show the day after the Logies (Australia's Emmies). There's vids of him apologising for it the next day, and of the somewhat opportunistic report on a competing station's news that night.

I think its also not the only time for this guy. As to why he's still on the air? I don't know, but it may have something to do with the fact that his competition includes an idiot who didn't know what a placebo was (Koshie - he wanted to know why the weren't used all the time if they were as effective as some other quack treatments...)

This. Back when it was thought to have been a stroke, and even now, when they're saying that it wasn't, that clip is seriously disturbing. The panic in her eyes is not funny.

I watched Diane Sawyer and didn't think she was anything other than tired. Whole article sucks. There used to be a much loved British newsreader called Reginald Bosanquet who was regularly snootered on air. When he died his co-anchor Anna Ford gave a great description of him :

"Reggie was a dear. I mean, you wouldn't have chosen a man who had epilepsy, was an alcoholic, had had a stroke and wore a toupée to read the news, but the combination was absolute magic.".

Everybody liked Reggie.

Probably just giddy. She's a democrat pretending to be an unbiased journalist. Stephanopolis was Clinton's spokesperson. Now pretending to be unbiased. It's silly to think the left hasn't infiltrated the media. Except they are more insidious than Fox News. Fox News says, hey were politically right and biased. Hey-o!
