I've read this five times and still can't figure out how many days the author is referring to.

Let's see, 10 business days would be somewhere between 12-14 calendar days. That leaves 26-28 days unaccounted for. I think this means that the guy took a 4-week vacation to get his ass drunk.

Your comment prompted me to send this link to my friend who was a lit major (but switched to graphic design because it was too mind-numbing). Her reply just a moment ago:

A good Negroni requires fresh vermouth. Don't use the bottle that's been sitting open at the back of the bar since 1974.

Aperol is a good substitute if you find the Campari's bitterness to be too aggressive.
