State officials say the new document requirements haven't uncovered any undocumented immigrants.

Hughes estimates about 1,300 doctors and other medical practitioners have lost their legal ability to work.

Yep. That's about all you need to know about these retarded laws.

Enactment of the law coincided with budget cuts that reduced the office staff by 40 percent.

So .... maybe states can't do it better than the Federal Government? Can you imagine their implementation of Romneycare?

FTA:
But that's where the vetting ends, confirms Kelly Farr and Lisa Durden of the secretary of state's office. The law says nothing about making sure the documents are genuine. "We really don't have a way to do that," says Durden.

State officials say the new document requirements haven't uncovered any undocumented immigrants.

Instead, officials say they hope the process itself may discourage people in the country illegally from trying to get licenses in the first place.

My god. It's full of assholes.

We can't have illegal immigrants running around takin ar jerbs!
We can't be paying Big Guvermint all that tax money to sit around and do nothing all day long!
We can't approve a bill that would fix the problem, because that would mean "cooperating" with them damn liberals!

You ever hear the phrase "As ye sow, so shall ye reap"? Well THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS.

I let my professional Ga. license lapse. Not for this reason, but because I do something else that makes more money in an unrelated field. If I had to renew, it would have been a pain in the ass which might have caused me to question renewing.

Republicans are so afraid of brown people that they make things harder on themselves and everyone else just to "correct" problems that don't exist. Guess their mommas never told them that cutting off their nose to spite their face does no one any good.

Victims of stupidity, I'd say...

FTA: 'Director LaSharn Hughes says she sent 41,000 letters of notification out on a recent Thursday. "And by Monday, we'd burned up a fax machine," Hughes said. "We didn't have the staff. We didn't have the equipment."'

Seriously, it's almost 2013 now and you are still sending out 41,000 faxes over a weekend? Even if that's the only way you have to communicate to someone without email (who the hell this is, I'd like to know)... you sent them out via a fax machine, and didn't just use a modem or an online email to fax service?

Here's some advice... fire Director LaSharn Hughes. Clearly this job is too hard for her and clearly she's undeserving for whatever pay you are giving her.

The problem isn't that they are checking residency. The problem is that the state doesn't have enough people to check for residency. And as the article notes, they are accepting residency papers at face value with no system to detect fraud.

In short: good idea, terrible execution. That's why people are mad.

Ugh this state is an embarrassment sometimes. Earlier this year they drove most of the illegals out..

Predictably the farmers started crying foul uz nobody else would do that work for barely better than slave wages

Last I heard they wanted to use prison labor

Something of an artificial restriction. States can't run deficits.

How the HELL is it a good idea? From the article: "Donald Palmisano Jr. executive director of the Medical Association of Georgia, says the law fixes a problem that never existed - at least not among doctors. "We're not aware of any undocumented immigrants that are physicians," Palmisano said."

A problem that NEVER existed among doctors...so let's fark things up to the point where doctors lose their licenses?
