In upstate NY, I've seen a few that are meant to be disguised as evergreens, but they'll be twice as tall as all the other trees around them. It's kind of hilarious.

There's a tower about 3/4 mile from my house in a residential neighborhood. It's almost impossible to see. The land owner gets $1,800/month. I'd let them put one in my front yard for that.

And the "disguise" is just a few plastic pine branches haphazardly tacked to the side of the pole. I think it actually stands out more than a plain tower would.

I don't get why people think cell towers are ugly. The weird ways they try to make them look like something else are all pretty terrible.

I have a condo in a mid-rise building. Since we are the tallest building in the area, the cell phone companies have an array of antennae on the roof, painted the same color as the building and they blend in really well. Friends don't notice them until I point them out. And the building gets a hefty chunk of change in rent from the phone companies, which keeps our monthly HOA payments low. And I get farking WONDERFUL coverage!

So I get a kick out of the NIMBY's...

I used to go to school off Baseline (UAT). Despite not being native, palm trees are all over the place. For being in a desert, Phoenix is surprisingly water wasteful.

Years ago, evangelist Rex Humbard had this tower built as a monumental act of hubris (it was supposed to be much taller and have a revolving restaurant at the top, but that never happened). Affectionately known as "Rex's Erection", it has since met its destiny as, you guessed it, a cell phone tower.

I think at the height required for cell phone towers, a big flag like that would probably get ripped apart by the wind, and it would interfere with the workers who would need to do repairs and maintenance up there. But I like where you're going with this.
