| Diogenes "There are many people who can speak to the conservative point of view with integrity and conviction, but Ms. Coulter is not among them. Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative-more heat than light-and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature." While it appears they were pressured a bit, this was very well-said. |

Diogenes: While it appears they were pressured a bit, this was very well-said. Is appealing to someone's better nature really "pressure"? Looks to me like they realized just how bad a visit from that total Coulter of a human being would look to the rest of campus and that it wouldn't win any hearts or minds. From there, it's a pretty sound decision to avoid alienating the people they hope to bring to their cause. I mean, you'd have to be a complete Coulter to not realize that they made a good decision here. |

But I would hope the decision came more from better judgement than concern over appearances. I'd love to see if Coulter would accept an invite as a comedian. |

| Pocket Ninja Diogenes: "There are many people who can speak to the conservative point of view with integrity and conviction, but Ms. Coulter is not among them. Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative-more heat than light-and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature." Pop quiz hot shot. It's the end of the world. The forces of darkness are closing in all around you. The chill winds of socialism, communism, fascism, and kenyanism are sweeping across the icy tundra of what had once been a land swathed in the green embrace of freedom. The cities have burned. The churches have burned. The streets are empty wastes. You are hungry, you are scared, you are hunted by the very government that should protect you. Alone, huddled in your last bunker with nothing but the rats and the few rounds of ammo you've scavenged, with the winter's winds howling at the door and the tattered remnants of your clothes hanging from your gaunt, starved body, which do you prefer: light, or heat? Answer that honestly, and in the future I'll thank you to think before you speak. |

| CapeFearCadaver "The College Republicans regret the controversy surrounding our planned lecture featuring Ann Coulter," they wrote in a statement announcing the cancellation. "The size and severity of opposition to this event have caught us by surprise and caused us to question our decision to welcome her to Rose Hill." There's been a lot of this recently. I hope it continues. |

Doing the things because of appearances is not the same as doing the right things because they are the right things, irrespective of how you are perceived. |

| scottydoesntknow Jackson Herring: The word troll doesn't mean anything any more does it Seriously. Trolling her would've been giving her the address to speak at and it being in a back-alley behind a dumpster somewhere. This was the university president saying it's probably a bad idea to invite her since she's just a hatemonger and the student group listening to him and recinding the invitation. They didn't even let her waste the money on flying before telling her to GTFO |

| simplicimus Peter von Nostrand: How did she get trolled? Stood up, maybe. Subtly told she's a worthless biatch, possibly Nope. The real point was expressed by the College President: 'Disgust' was the word I used to sum up my feelings about those incidents. Hate speech, name-calling, and incivility are completely at odds with the Jesuit ideals that have always guided and animated Fordham.". More to the point: Don't screw with Jesuits. Most Catholics know this. I predict bad things for the college's Republicans. |

Peter von Nostrand: How did she get trolled? Stood up, maybe. Subtly told she's a worthless biatch, possibly this. Trolling her would have been to invite her under the guise of discussing politics but really it was a symposium on the trans-gendered and the flyers list her as the key note speaker. That's trolling |

Now how many times has THAT been said in colleges and universities across the U.S.? Young Americans for Freedom are really the bad ones, they just tend to infect the CR's via dual membership. I would be surprised if the YAF wing of the Fordham CR's invited Coulter and by the time the President found out, the non-YAF CRs were already trying to kill the invitation. I remember going through college wishing YAF and Students for Democratic Society would get into a giant knife fight and kill each other off. It would have improved the campus political scene immensely. |

If she isn't saying things that are representative of the conservative viewpoint, why do conservatives reward her so richly for saying them? I agree with this... but I always wonder if Coulter, Limbaugh, Savage, several others (not Boortz, who is a serious self-important asshole) studied the work of the great Andy Kaufman and are just people that are getting rich trolling very stupid people. I'd hazard a guess that at least one of them and maybe they all are. If it is to make money then it's brilliant. Go watch the Andy Kaufman wrestling documentary. Coulter = Kaufman, the idiot hicks getting so angry at him are the conservatives that listen to her. |
