If I'm going through all that effort to pretend to be in some profession, I'm setting my sights a bit higher.

No offense to physician's assistants. We don't have enough of you.

Prosecutors said Scheidt used the badge to work in the hospital emergency room for weeks, changing bandages, handling IVs and helping to conduct exams.

Since he was underage at the time, could people who were nude in front of him for exams be charged with exposing themselves to a minor, corrupting a minor, etc. and be put on the sex offender list for life? Stranger things have happened. He probably liked the breast exams.

"I'm just gonna squeeze these and make sure they weren't damaged in your accident"

You'd be surprised at how much tail you can get as a fake Marine Biologist.

But seriously, probably a cop or FBI agent or a spy. But those are so obvious and passe as far as impersonated careers go these days.

go big, sure, but go safe... an FBI agent or a cop, that'll definitely get you time. Go with something where no one can prove you're not who you say you are, something where you can, with no training, be just as skilled as the people doing it. Try for the Senate.

Awesome way to end the article.

So, did he fake the ID, or steal it? Or was it some podunk hospital with no RFID door locks, security and such? I'm fairly certain this wouldn't have happened at the Hospital I worked at, however inept the upper management was.

"Their error was putting me in apparently as a physician assistant into their computer," Scheidt told investigators in August. "Let's even say that I said I was a physician assistant. Let's even say that I was. Are you that stupid that you are just going to put me in the system as that, without any credentials or any paperwork or nothing?"

After his arrest, Scheidt acknowledged having performed CPR on a patient suffering from a drug overdose.
"I felt so uncomfortable even doing that. And, you know, the only reason why I did do it was because there was nobody else in there. And I'm not going to let her die,"

Are drunken monkeys running this show?

I sometimes sit in conferences about pharmaceutical supply chain or human factor in drug designs... you'd be shocked over how much the FDA or watch dog groups find that doctors/hospitals get away with either because they're cheap, corrupt or incompetent.

A Florida teenager was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail
...
Matthew Scheidt, 18, will then spend a year under house arrest, followed by eight years' probation.

So is he going to jail for a year, then house arrest for a year, then probation for 8 years, or is it just a year of house arrest, followed by 8 years of probation?

I believe a lot of the work is "pick this up... bring this here... deliver this to there... restock this.... find me a [blank]..."

And a lot of the training is probably safety regulations and procedures.

So...did he actually do anything wrong while pretending to be a PA? Like AugieDoggyDaddy stated, is he that much of an innate genius that nobody noticed?

Also I lol'd at the new charge from January for impersonating a police officer.

He just needs a chance to not be a teenager and look back and think "What was I thinking?"
I spent a summer posing as nurse with a male buddy who posed as a doctor. We were 16. It was a small town; not much to do.

We'd go to the hospital, snag a couple of lab jackets, a couple of stethoscopes, pick-up charts and visit patients. We never tried to actually treat anyone. He'd babble on and I'd pretend to take notes and agree with his assessments. I'll never forget the day he told an old guy that if he didn't masturbate more often the pressure would blow his eyeballs out.

I could impersonate a Medical Assistant although no longer certified. They're the folks that take you to the exam room and take your vitals. They also take blood and do limited x-rays. They train for about 9 months. Its longer than a CNA. Oh PA? yeah they're under the doctor's license. If you want autonomy, be an NP

A PA is a physicians assistant. This typically requires a masters degree and they function in a practitioner role. They diagnose treat and prescribe. You are utterly incorrect.

NPs are not autonomous providers. They have to be under an MD as well.

The only licensed autonomous medical providers in the US are MDs and DOs.

Correct and in practices that use them it's usually the PA does all the work and the MD gets all the money. As someone else mentioned, becoming a nurse practitioner is more lucrative and rewarding. A friend of mine became a PA because he didn't want to spend the time to become an RN and then have to go to NP school. He wishes he had.
