As an experiment, I typed "cyber" into Google to see what the auto-complete would be. Perhaps it's a sign of my age but the results were not what I expected.

I hereby officially declare today to be Sammich Saturday and people across America are obliged to not only eat nothing but sammiches, but to graciously make a sammich for their significant other, family member or any homeless people they see regularly on their block. Now get hot and make me a sammich cause it's OFFICIAL!™©®

I need to write a catchy Christmas jingle so that when we do have 180 days of Christmas, I will receive massive royalties like Hugh Grant does

I swear that the ONLY reason why they don't sell Christmas stuff before Halloween is because of the candy. Get rid of Halloween and you could get your wish!

I've seen a slight up-tick on ebay, but I hope it picks up soon or I'm going to be screwed next semester =/

While I get why people want to spread their purchases out for cash flow reasons, I saw Eggnog in the grocery on 10/22. That's just WRONG.

Actually, on this subject, anyone know how to write up a basic html email that would just show a couple of pictures and some links, but look nice? EIP if anyone's got advice. I haven't taken the web-design class yet =/

FTFA: "If you start spending in October, it's very easy to get to December and forget about the purchases you made," she said.

Don't I know it! I don't intentionally set out to do Christmas shopping ridiculously early but, if I see something that's the PERFECT gift for someone (like a Millennium Falcon car shade for my Star Wars-obsessed brother), I'll buy it. Saw it on a Fark thread in early 2011, grabbed one, and put it aside for his Christmas present.

And that thing's still lurking in this house SOMEWHERE. Had to buy him a Jawa garden gnome last Christmas instead. My Black Friday this year will be spent tearing apart the house looking for that goddamn car shade.

/There's also an X-Men mug I bought in Jan for a friend's birthday in May. It's wrapped and everything and I can't find it.

Of course it did. The true Shopmas season began on November 12th (Observed Veterans Day). It was a day that people used their day off for what it was intended for....blind consumerism. People complain about the commercialism of the Shopmas season but they need to realize the reason for the season. They need to realize that they need to be good consumers and spend in order to look good to their peers. If they don't buy their kids all of the toys then they're obviously bad parents. If they don't buy family members all the cool items then they must hate their family. If they don't spend then they must be bad people.

Do you want to be seen as a bad person? No? Then go out and spend!

Happy Shopmas!

I didn't read the entire article, but do they mention that the term Cyber Monday became obsolete years ago when most people went from dial up to DSL/Cable and had speeds that were as good as what they had at their workplace?

I need a new laptop. General purpose...email, surfing, light spreadsheets and PS. Nothing fancy.

Cheap is a quality that overcomes many shortcomings.

Specific suggestions?

PS - Current front runner is Dell Inspiron 15 with i3 cpu, 4bg RAM, 500 gb HD & Win7 for $399.

My reason for shopping earlier & earlier each year is that the good stuff pretty much sells out in November. Or I'm just really good at predicting what each year's hot toys & gifts will be.

Christmas is so hard. My brother and I spoke about it last night because the topic always comes up on Thanksgiving. I think we commited to a "small" Christmas this year, so I just told mom and suggested an item from Amazon and e-mailed brother another item on amazon (we're all pretty rural and my car only gets 15mpg, so amazon is my preference for shopping)
I guess I'll see by their replies how good I'm doing.

/Does anyone have any good ideas for cheap/small stuff to fill up the rest of the room under the tree?
//box of bubble wrap, maybe? Here's your stress relief kit and instruction card to go with it...
///I don't want to buy stupid Chinese plastic stuff so I guess I'll look for a few other items locally.

Small food items, especially tea if the person likes it. Even if it's normal grocery stuff, if you're all hard up for cash, there's nothing wrong with helping out the pantry. Plus you can be pretty sure it'll actually get used, assuming you know their preferences.

I want to get my mom an e-reader/tablet for Christmas. Her eyes are going, so I want to get her an e-reader so she can read books again. She's also getting a hip replacement sometime in the spring and I figured if I get her a tablet, she can watch videos in the hospital. Do you guys have any recommendations Should I get her a kindle or nook? Should I go for a Kindle Fire or a Kindle Fire HD?Are they worth it? Any recommendations? I want to keep the price under $200 so no Ipads
