| mr_a I doubt this would surprise anyone who has ever driven in Massachusetts |
||
| St_Francis_P She knows bad driving from the inside. |

You'd think her status would give her the magic get-out-of-traffic-violations free privilege. |
||
| ZAZ You'd think her status would give her the magic get-out-of-traffic-violations free privilege. It does now that she has oversight responsibility for state police. Single vehicle run off the road accident in broad daylight and police didn't care. When you're just a fundraiser it's harder to cry "do you know who I am?" Especially in another state -- the speeding ticket she ignored was in New Hampshire. If you care to search Howie Carr's archives he's written about how much better Massachusetts drivers become once they are elected to office. |

johnsoninca ![]() Safety? But sir! If truth be known, I actually caused more accidents around here than any other employee, including a few doozies no one every found out about. |

| 182 ThatGuyFromTheInternet: You'd think her status would give her the magic get-out-of-traffic-violations free privilege. so, i'd imagine she's worse than her record suggests....damn. |

#1 qualification for any state job: being a democrat. |
||
| Silly Jesus
A Democratic appointee with no experience in the field that she was appointed to run. Color me surprised. |

| Vangor Sudlow: #1 qualification for any state job: being a democrat. Being affiliated with the party in power, you mean. |

Vangor Sudlow: #1 qualification for any state job: being a democrat. "Being affiliated with the party in power, you mean." Republicans have almost no power in MA. Even when the governor is a republican, he is a figurehead. The democrats have such a large majority in the house & senate that they can override anything he does. |

| ZAZ Republicans have almost no power in MA. Even when the governor is a republican, he is a figurehead. Under Weld and Republican successors the parties shared patronage jobs. Weld/Cellucci/Swift got the highway agencies, Democrats got the parks agencies. One of the Republican highway people did have some trouble, an apparent drunk driving wreck in a state car for which he was not ticketed. He finally got busted for DUI after he left state employment. |

Yea, no one from Massachusetts can drive well. I have relatives who have been in multiple accidents. I've been in just one accident but it was a single car and I damn near totalled the company van I was driving. All a driver's license proves in Massachusetts is that you've paid any car fees to the state,not that you can drive. |
||
| Silly Jesus
Q: Why was Hellen Keller refused a driver's license? A: Because she was a woman. |

Not to get all sober here, but wouldn't illuminating her spotty driving past be an example of the appeal-to-hypocrisy fallacy? |
||
| EggSniper
FTFA ...comfortable knowing Burgess has had no [documented] driving issues between the date of her hiring [as director of the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division] and the time of her accident FTFY |

| Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, I'm a highway safety chief, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses." "Hit it." |

I do not care which party is doing the appointing stop appointing people who are not qualified for the position for making the appointment for. |
||
| bikerwalla
She was only appointed to a position in government. It's not like she could affect people's lives from there or anything. |

| UNAUTHORIZED FINGER "Qualifications?!? We don't need no steenkin' qualifications!" -Representative Todd Akin House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology /may not be an actual quote... yet |

austerity101: Not to get all sober here, but wouldn't illuminating her spotty driving past be an example of the appeal-to-hypocrisy fallacy? Only if we were trying to dismiss her work initiatives based on her piss-poor driving record, which I haven't seen in this thread. |

ThatGuyFromTheInternet: You'd think her status would give her the magic get-out-of-traffic-violations free privilege. FTA: "There are 34 entries on her driving record, dating back to 1982. ... When asked whether Heffernan was comfortable with Burgess's long driving record, spokesman Terrel Harris said that she "was comfortable knowing Burgess has had no driving issues between the date of her hiring and the time of her [Aug. 24] accident."" 34 incidents in 25 years and then none in the last five years? Sounds awfully convenient. |

Only if we were trying to dismiss her work initiatives based on her piss-poor driving record, which I haven't seen in this thread. True, but I was referring to the very existence of the article. We find it ironic that her record stands as such, I suppose. |

Even when the governor is a republican, he is a figurehead. The democrats have such a large majority in the house & senate that they can override anything he does. Which doesn't exactly negate what I said. The party in power here is the Democratic Party. Elsewhere, Republicans are. All of them are assholes for hiring unqualified people due to affiliation. |

| Snort
I thought for sure there would be a debate about whether this was actually irony or not. |
