From what I understand, trademark lawyers err on the side of safety -- supposedly, if there's any instance where you fail to defend your trademark, that opens it up for other people to imitate your trademark or otherwise degrade its value.

Benjamin Kabak, the 29-year-old lawyer behind the account, told POLITICO that Twitter reenabled the account Tuesday morning but threatened him with permanent deletion if they receive another complaint.

"Twitter has suspended my account over a claim from The Times that my avatar violates a trademark," Kabak wrote Monday night on The Times Is On It Facebook page. "I say fair use."

In a brief statement to the media, Kabak's former law school disavowed any knowledge of him, or any other student who confuses a conclusion with an argument.
