| A 55-year-old maritime pine that was covered by a tree preservation order is blocking your view of the harbor so do you. C) Pay a friend to cut it down in the cover of darkness |

Why not just try to get the preservation order lifted? Those things aren't written in stone. |
||
| Publikwerks Throw his ass in jail for 30 days. That's more of a punishment than any fine would be |
||
| Satanic_Hamster Someone in my backyard in the middle of a night with a chainsaw? I'm just going to have to do the natural thing and assume they're a serial killer and shoot 'em. It's the safe thing to do. |

"tree surgeon Thomas McGuire to sneak into the garden at night and chop down the 40ft pine" tree surgeon... wtf |

It's a tree, it's only 55 years old - how the hell is there a preservation order attached to it? |

What a douche. His neighbor should replace it with an even bigger tree. |

It's the safe thing to do. Except this happened in the UK where, I've been led to believe, that if you even so much as hurt the feelings of someone trespassing on your property or robbing your house you are arrested and sent to jail. I think having a firearm gets you loaded on to a catapult and shot into the sun. |

Chaide: What a douche. His neighbor should replace it with an even bigger tree. Expensive to install. Why I suggested the cutter should. |

What harbor view? That little spec of water in the distance that is overshadowed by the houses and other trees? Yeah, I don't think 'fail' is quite a strong enough word for this one. |
||
| HindiDiscoMonster If found guilty, they should do the following: 1> Fine both of them the cost of replacing the tree with a fully grown one of similar age 2> Make them replace the tree with the same kind (if possible similar age) 3> Put them in the stocks for 30days (isn't that still a tradition over there) if the stocks aren't available, jail is ok too... If they fail to comply within 30days for 1 and 2, then they both get to sign their houses over to the council. I bet nobody would ever do that again :) |

A view works both ways Around here some mountain homes cut a landing strip in front of the picture window for a panoramic view. Of course we lesser folks now get a full frontal view of the palace up high. |

The owner should install a Batsignal-strength spot light aimed at this guys house... |
||
| lucksi
Build a wall where the tree once stood so his view is totally obstructed |

| DjangoStonereaver Mogani: "tree surgeon Thomas McGuire to sneak into the garden at night and chop down the 40ft pine" tree surgeon... wtf Its a coloquial term for an 'arborist', which is to say a person specialized in the care of individual trees. Don't tell me you've never heard of the term before now. |
||
| UNC_Samurai
Didn't Dan Snyder do the exact same thing, minus the cover of darkness? |

| Coming on a Bicycle
Drill a slightly downward sloping hole in the tree to its core and fill it with sulphuric acid. Then fill the hole with a piece of bark. |
||
| magic_patch
I'm sure I could think of a few creative ways to bring the life of a tree to an end thus requiring the council to cut it down. |
||
| Wrencher
I would fill the guy's hot tub with cement. /accidentally spilled from the wall construction of course. |

Nott suprised this happened poole the the area is swarming with self entitled morons who think that someone because they have a large mortgage. Council should what they have done in other places, plant a sapling in its place and until it has grown put up a board blocking the view. |

If you're John Olerud, just have the city council order the tree cut down: Link |

Other than it being violation of a court order, I just don't care. It's a tree. It doesn't really matter. Burn it for firewood or make a nice chair out of it. |

No fines, no prison time. Just make them plant a whole row of trees instead of one. Fizpez: Satanic_Hamster: Someone in my backyard in the middle of a night with a chainsaw? You know, I wanted to be upset with this douchebag's act, I mean really, pay a neighbor to cut down a protected tree? But then I realized it's a freakin pine tree, one stupid tree, and only 50 some years old at that! Yeah, he's still a douche, he should have gone through legal avenues to petition for its removal, but c'mon, it's a single tree, not like redskins owner Danny Snyder who clears a hillside of protected trees for a view of the craptastic Potomac. I would give a sentence of having to plant 100 trees. |

If the tree was on his property it was his to cut down but upon reading the article he cut down a tree belonging to somebody else and should face charges. If governemtn does not want me to cut down my trees ten they should compensate me for at least their value in firewood on the open market because you can be dam sure they don't hesitate to inlcude them in my property tax appraisal.(only about $60-$80 a cord right now) |

| Tr0mBoNe The "Tree Surgeon" had no idea what he was doing. He didn't do a relief cut and didn't trim the uppers before felling it. He was lucky it didn't twist and take out the house next door or crush someone. |

i'd replant with a Persimmon tree, then when he cuts THAT down demand the court make him pay for a new one plus lost fruit. The damn things are $2-$4 each and the tree grows tons of them, all the time. |

Cormee: It's a tree, it's only 55 years old - how the hell is there a preservation order attached to it? It doesn't matter if the tree had a preservation order or not. He could not *ever* legally remove the tree, because the tree was on his neighbor's property! As in, it was not *his* tree to cut down in the first place. He needs to be thrown in jail, then sued for destruction of private property, preferably for everything he's worth. |

Oh well it was only a year old (or two or three or 55, etc.) what good is it, let's cut it down. Slippery slope. |
||
| UNAUTHORIZED FINGER I suppose they would have never known it was 55 years old without cutting it down. |
