| schief2 The bullet-proofed embassy SUV was chased under fire and struck by 152 bullets, 40 percent of them pumped into the driver and passenger-side windows after the vehicle had come to a stop. The CIA officers didn't receive life-threatening wounds and the navy officer was unharmed. That's.....kind of impressive. |

So the protocols were not in use or they were left unseeded for a season or more? That is an odd way to run your ISO process on auditing your protocols. |

I guess that's what the CIA gets for driving a Toyota instead of an American car. |

I remember seeing something on TV about how a successful assassin had penetrated a heavily armored vehicle easily using a relatively small charge of C4 on a bicycle... EEE | EEE | -------------->>>> Direction of blast EEE | The E's are the explosive and the pipe symbol is a brass or copper plate... can't remember... anyway, when the explosive went boom, it shot the plate in the direction of the vehicle and because the force and heat of the explosion was soo high, the plate reformed into a conical shape and became molten... passed right through the car and out the other side like it wasn't there. Shocking and scary if you think about it... most criminals have no problem getting C4, HMX, or hell... even making it. |

It is actually a fairly common tactic by Taliban in Afghanistan (and Iraqi insurgents too, while we were in Iraq). Commonly called an EFP, for explosively formed penetrator, it is a disturbingly effective anti-armor improvised device. A little harder to get right than your typical IED, but they have some bomb makers who are good at producing them. /lost somebody I served with to an EFP. |

CIA gets diplomatic immunity now? I'm sure what those agents did over there was all within the law and there was no reason at all to fire on them. |

You know - what's amazing to me is the Benghazi consulate attack gets so much attention and yeah people were killed there and the tea party is trying to turn it into a political scandal, but it's just typical terrorism while this goes largely unexplained and while there were no deaths it's not like they didn't try to kill anyone - and it is largely ignored. |
||
| NutWrench The U.S. Embassy is uncharacteristically quiet, given the normal U.S. outrage over attacks on Americans working on foreign soil, from the killing this year of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others in Benghazi to the torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena in Mexico nearly 28 years ago. The U.S. needs the help of the Mexican government to fight the War on (certain kinds of) Drugs™ and it wouldn't be helpful to publicly point out how thoroughly infiltrated the Federales are by the cartels. |
||
| tmonsta This is going to end up being Obama's Benghazi. |

In my defense it is more of a morning routine...get to work, read a few stories while drinking coffee, submit 3-5 headlines, start working while periodically checking to see if I had any success. This morning I ahd the bittersweet moment of seeing a greenlight (Yea!) and then realizing I mispelled a 1st grade level word (D'oh!). /But maybe that really is the secret to Fark greenlights? |

You do know an ambassador was killed in that attack right? Typical terrorism? What? Oh and if you notice there is a link to this story, in the news, which is always ignored. Cause we're not talking about it right now. |
