could be where they got the inspiration for it... basically, the guy packed a backpack with explosive, put it on a bicycle, put a steel plate behind it, put a copper plate facing where the car would pass, set up a remote, and hit it as it was passing... shaped charge i guess.

It is actually a fairly common tactic by Taliban in Afghanistan (and Iraqi insurgents too, while we were in Iraq). Commonly called an EFP, for explosively formed penetrator, it is a disturbingly effective anti-armor improvised device. A little harder to get right than your typical IED, but they have some bomb makers who are good at producing them.

You know - what's amazing to me is the Benghazi consulate attack gets so much attention and yeah people were killed there and the tea party is trying to turn it into a political scandal, but it's just typical terrorism while this goes largely unexplained and while there were no deaths it's not like they didn't try to kill anyone - and it is largely ignored.

The U.S. Embassy is uncharacteristically quiet, given the normal U.S. outrage over attacks on Americans working on foreign soil, from the killing this year of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others in Benghazi to the torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena in Mexico nearly 28 years ago.

The U.S. needs the help of the Mexican government to fight the War on (certain kinds of) Drugs™ and it wouldn't be helpful to publicly point out how thoroughly infiltrated the Federales are by the cartels.

This is going to end up being Obama's Benghazi.

Hrm...yeah, I guess I am guilty. In my defense it is more of a morning routine...get to work, read a few stories while drinking coffee, submit 3-5 headlines, start working while periodically checking to see if I had any success.

This morning I ahd the bittersweet moment of seeing a greenlight (Yea!) and then realizing I mispelled a 1st grade level word (D'oh!).
