I think it is kind of funny that the US Gov likes to say that anyone who smokes pot supports terrorists, drug cartels, and other "bad people" but they don't seem to mind the fact that these groups are using our currency as long as it helps keep the value of the dollar up. Wouldn't want people to get so worried about the dollar that they start holding Washington to some sort of accountability or anything. |
||
| BolloxReader How the hell is that? Just try using a hundred dollar bill to pay for something these days. Take a pack of gum to the cashier at the local gas station, toss down a hundred and see her point to the ubiquitous "No Bills over $20" sign. I often have hundreds, but I only spend them at truck stops. Must be all the cartels circulating these hundred dollar bills. |

What US bill is the most popular for rolling up into a tube? Probably not the same one used for lighting a Havana |

| TheGogmagog
We are the twenty percent. Always wondered why there wern't larger denominations. I'm suprised TFA didn't touch on that. |

Can we have a currency debate about how rubbish American currency and coins are? Because that always ends peacefully. |
||
| dopekitty74 Hundreds and fifties are common in canada, but twenties are the most commonly used. In my experience as a cashier, tens are the least common.. Hate the new polymer bills. They suck. |

Kinda makes sense to me. Aren't $100s the largest bill now? Since everything else is paid for with plastic, there's not much need for tons of other bills. |

Has it dawned on anybody that a lot of the $100 bills in circulation didn't start out that way? |

Its all about drugs and crime. When you deal in kilos of drugs you use $100 bills or €500 notes. A briefcase full of $100 becomes a suitcase if its in smaller amounts. When you don't want people (like the tax man) knowing about how much money you have you keep it in $100 bills or €500 notes. That trillion $/€ trade in drugs needs a lot of hard cash. |

In the book Reefer Madness, it states that 80% of all 100 dollar bills are circulated outside of the US. This might hold some insight into the matter... |
||
| Feral_and_Preposterous
It doesn't say there are more $100 bills than $1 bills. It says the total value (not number) of the $100 bills in circulation (80%) is more than the total value of the other bills. (Unless I missed something. It's early and the coffee hasn't finished yet.) This isn't really THAT surprising, is it? Maybe I'm wrong. If so, thanks to whoever points it out. /Go! |

I process about $4M in commercial deposit currency on an average day. That usually includes a few buckets of twenties and a few bundles of hundreds. |

No reason to have money for change for a currency that's kept by people that are worried about their own currency's volatility on international markets. Compared to many other currencies: the dollar is stable and less likely to leave them needing to bring a wheelbarrow full of bills to buy some Astro-Glide and a shoe-horn. |

The stories out of Iraq said that pallets of $100 bills were so common, that the locals had their own native slang term for them. That sort of cash buys a lot of corruption. I think someone wrote a book about that, title something like 'We meant well'. |

I'm not excusing anybody. I'm just saying the same issues come up all the time ON BOTH SIDES of the aisle. When the republicans are running up the deficit, the democrats act like its the worst thing since outlawed killing hookers... Fast forward to demos being in power, and suddenly the repubs are screaming about the same farking thing! This printing money issue is the same thing. I've been listening to my extreamly partisan family argue over these issues since Reagan was in office... I'm being the voice of reason here, and you're going all demagogue. /btw, every president since I've been alive has been guilty of impeachable offenses.* * at least in ~1/3 of the country's eyes |

I guess that too complicated for you to understand. Maybe you never noticed, but I never disagreed with you about bush. Do you even know what a demagogue is? Cause you play the role well. You can't see anything beyond your own prejudices. Yeah, bush sucked. So did Clinton in a lot of ways. So does Obama, and Romney would have too if he got elected. |

| Voiceofreason01 It's probably time to introduce a higher denomination bill. A $200 or $500 bill would be awesome. /we can also phase out the $1 bill in favor of a $1 coin and get rid of the $10 bill //seriously |

| Kellner21 I like ten dollar bills. I don't know why. |
