Odd that of all the people I've seen post that IP protection claim never seem to offer anything interesting beyond links (not their IP) and maybe baby/dog/cat pictures.

Just this very morning, I heard some radio "morning zoo" recommending this.

It really shouldn't be necessary to research it. Common sense and even a minimal knowledge of law should tell you that the terms of service you willingly agreed to trumps your post that Mark Zuckerberg has never consented to.

I suspect they have rights to do whatever with your info, and if you request account removal, they remove your account per whatever their policy, and your data is "theirs" under the terms of the most recent TOS in place (that you agreed to at some point) when you requested removal.

Anyway, the first court cases involving Facebook's uses of personal data ought to be fun.

What I'm saying is that if I send a notice to Mark Zuckerberg to remove or delete your account, under whatever of their governing policies, do they have to remove it? If so, what of the information that they retain (because full-on deletion isn't an option, and FB retains "rights" to shiat you've uploaded) - is it governed under whatever their current EULA says or the last EULA your shiat was subject to (the last one implemented before you requested removal)?

Or is it "once you make data available for us, it's ours, no backsies (and we can alter the deal whether you pray or not)"?

This. One of my idiot friends posted it last night. After losing quite a bit of respect for him, I responded with "You think this is bad? Morgan Freeman just died and the Post Office is going to start charging $0.25 per e-mail."

I know an actual lawyer who posted this crap to his page.

I tried to point out the absurdity of it to someone. They told me they don't trust Snopes. Ok, how about the story from Slate? .. CBSNews? .. USA Today? ... their response "My uncle is a lawyer and he posted it on his page so I'll trust that." .... ugh.
