I'm getting pretty sick of these loose ended articles. You're telling me that someone ran up behind this little girl, grabbed her, was chased down, caught, man gets daughter back, suspect was held for hours, and the police were never called? I think the media reports this fake kind of shiat because they think they are doing society some kind of favor by making them more 'aware' of the dangers that exist out there and people don't care because, hey, nothing wrong with that, right? | Warthog This happened at Fashion Square Mall (neither fashionable nor a square), which is the only traditional mall (vs. strip mall) in Charlottesville, Va. I haven't been in this mall in at least 7 or 8 years, but used to shop there regularly. The guys who ran security seemed to have only one setting: hassle teenager mode. And they seemed to have only one response: escort teenager from mall. The rest of the time they would circle the parking lot aimlessly in their Suzuki Samurai's or hang out at the Chick-fil-A (right next to the Kay Jewelers mentioned in the story, as case would have it). This story shocks me not in the least -- the moment I read the headline and saw the NBC 29 logo on the link I knew it'd be about Fashion Square. /CSB, I know. |

super_grass: I thought Fark had an understanding that private security had no ability to detain people. Having done that job (shuddupitwascollegeIneededthemoney) I can say, that is correct. They can, however, contact the police immediately and follow the man on mall property to possibly get a car tag, and review security tapes to get a photo. Hell, nothing would stop them from snapping a cell phone photo. Actually I was in this very situation once, and did exactly that. Mine turned out to be harmless - a visitation custody exchange with a sloppy and awkward handoff. The police handled it quietly and professionally, dad was cool about it, the kid thought the cops were cool, and off they went. I was assuming that was the case here but from TFA it sure sounds like it was an actual freak. Scary. I am a small farkette and not very tough but had it been my kid he'd be easy to find by his walking funny from his sudden lack of balls and from my claw marks down his face. Mamma bear and all. |

I don't see where it says he was detained for hours. The article I saw says the girls father chased him down, then mall security escorted him out the door. Of course if you read three different articles on any news item, you typically get three contradicting accounts as to what actually happened so it's pretty much impossible to know what actually happened unless you were there. |
