If someones life is so F#'d up that they are stealing stuff that middle class Americans didn't want, I'm not sure that jail is really that big a deal.

I saw a couple of dirtbags stealing from a donation box the other day and called the cops on them. Didn't hang around to see what happened, but I hope it involved pepper spray, since San Diego doesn't seem to keep people in jail longer than it takes to book them these days.
