Career teaching is a horrific job. Overworked, underpaid, everyone's a backseat driver: you just snap. I don't mean you go on a rampage or anything. But eventually you just reach a point where you just lose the ability to use judgement. It happens a lot. I'd bet mental exhaustion is behind more sick days than disease.

Next time your teacher is a sub, ask yoursef "Is it really a cold or does teaching just suck." then vote for pay rises to educators. (Raise in 'merican, I guess.)

I have a friend from Laurel County who currently works for the state Democratic Party in Frankfort. He told me it was difficult to tell his family and friends he was a Democrat. As he put it, "Admitting you're a Democrat in London is about like admitting you're a homosexual."

You just summed it up. You and I likely have the same basic core beliefs, but there's probably a ton of of details we don't agree on. In today's GOP, even the details must be adhered to in order to be a member of the club.

We don't get outraged because, despite decades of conservative claims, we don't have a unifying voice. And I would hate for that to be the case. I agree that there should be more (much more) outrage, but because we're not all lockstep to some am radio show, that's not happening.

My mom did that with me. The movie The Craft came out and the principal said that anyone who saw it would be suspended. She thought that was idiotic on principle and the curriculum was too slow for me anyway.

/I watched the movie eventually, but for much more leggy reasons than its perceived anti-Christian agenda.
