| BunkyBrewman Some of the FB comments show the true naivete of some of our population. Kari Sorenson As a North Dakota gal, I have never been to the Big Apple but I am glad to know that I can believe that people there are just like people here. God is at work everyday. Some of you really need to go places. |

| robohobo Did he celebrate by jerking off at a computer in his local library? |

He's only been a cop for 3 years. In the next five, either he'll devolve into Neanderthal Cop mode, or he'll be off the force (or have a desk job) because the other cops don't appreciate good ones. Hopefully, he'll end up on some local force where this sort of thing isn't frowned upon. |

At least he didn't buy him Uggs - then the homeless guy would get back problems. |

Sketchers? Why would he inflict that kind of punishment on that poor homeless man? Hasn't he suffered enough already? /I believe Steve Martin invented sketchers. |
||
| nmemkha Of course not all cops are bad. But, their apologetic protection of the bad cops among them makes them no better. |

Bravo Officer for you random act of kindness. May the recipient pay it forward. |

I think this cop missed the point of the term "bootstraps" /at least they weren't new balance shoes? |

....which he promptly traded for half a bottle of Night Train and a dry bag of rolling tobacco. |

This world has become a jaded, jaded place. For good reason mostly. It sucks that generally in society we dont give a f*€k about others. Its just good to see someone care, and actually do something every once in a while. Especially a cop, because in my experience, most of them are just the worst people imaginable. |

Wow. A cop being alturistic made the news. I better get some plastic sheets and popcorn. Heads are gonna blow over this one. |
||
| redmid17 This doesn't look like police brutality to me. |

Good for the cop. Hopefully it encourages more people to do the same thing. |

Not to downplay how nice this is, but the homeless guy may have been shoeless to get more donations/money. I often see homeless here without shoes/wearing garbage bags etc, it's why a lot of crusties keep a dog, they often get more by looking worse. I certainly hope he wears the shoes though, you can tell from the photo that his feet are pretty jacked. |

Give a homeless man a pair of boots and he may walk for days. Teach a homeless man to make a pair of boots. ? Profit! |

Mr. Cano volunteered to give the officer his employee discount to bring down the regular $100 price of the all-weather boots to a little more than $75. farking pigs. Volunteered my ass, I'm sure the big bad cop leaned on the poor shop keeper for the old "policeman's discount," and he probably used his uniform allowance to pass the cost on to the downtrodden taxpayer anyway. I demand an independent investigation. Not like it will matter, no matter what they find the police union will keep this worthless leech on the payroll. The 99% making the 1% look bad! Am i doing it right? |
||
| dmcman73
Expect a news article tomorrow stating that the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave for violating pan handler laws. |

I used to roll my eyes at people who said mean things about the police, but with increasing age and cynicism, I've come to think that while there must be good, altruistic reasons to pursue a career in law enforcement, the profession also must attract more than its fair share of people who suffer from a degree of psychopathy or megalomania. The temptation for these sorts of people to get to wear a gun and force people to do what they say after just a few months of post-high school training must be very difficult to resist. Even so, I doubt any person becomes a cop without rationalizing a little to himself that he really just wants to help other people. It was definitely a nice thing, what this guy did. But people are complicated, and do "nice things" for all sorts of reasons, so I don't think this story or others like them do much to change my attitude about the police. |

On a cold November night in Times Square, Officer Lawrence DePrimo was working a counterterrorism post...Officer DePrimo went into a Skechers shoe store at about 9:30 p.m.... "as soon as the boots were on him, he went on his way, and I just went back to my post." Alternative headline: Cop Abandons Post to Conduct Personal Business Leaving Thousands at Risk of Terrorist Attack! |
||
| IRQ12
It's a touching story because the officer probably makes ~10% less than the homeless guy. (NYPD new officers are comically underpaid.) |

I certainly hope he wears the shoes though, you can tell from the photo that his feet are pretty jacked. Unfortunately, this is the case. This guy's hook is that he can't afford shoes. Others have chimed in to say that he's been doing this for a while. Unfortunately, he didn't need those shoes, or that level of generosity. Just wait for any followup, and he'll be shoeless again. |

You guys are so hard to impress. A police officer does something amazing, and you all are completely unimpressed. / Most police are good |

Dang, fark is behind. Somebody posted it on facebook this morning. Don't look at me like that. The guy shared the link. Ok fine, just don't poke me. |
||
| Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom A pair of discount shoes vs thousands of murders, beatings, kidnappings, etc? Yeah, that totally evens things out. |
