Uh, not to be a total buzzkill, but unless he's totally blind, they do make screens and braille keyboards that would allow a partially-sighted individual to send texts like anyone else. I'm not sure why he'd WANT to; but there are such devices. There are also text readers that read text aloud, kind of like a reverse of the thing Stephen Hawking uses to communicate.

It's almost as though technology has advanced to where blind and deaf people can communicate via computers just like everyone else.

I text with my phone using my voice. I use my bluetooth earpiece and don't even take my phone out of my pocket. You didn't realize this technology exists?
