Slutty-looking '60s Barbie with the heavily-madeup bedroom eyes > modern Barbie who just looks dumb.

I'm not seeing the problem with this. In my town this would be great advice for 90% of the teenage girls around here.

Typically you date the thin ones and shun the fat ones. That's pretty much been Western culture for the past century or so.

This just in: Women like to market themselves to men.

She couldn't be thinner.
Now she goes to the bathroom and vomits up dinner.

In other news, 1965 was nearly 50 years ago. Things were different then.

/And people in 1965 were probably horrified with the way things were in 1915.

Well, if you think that's bad you should have seen Anti-Communist Barbie, Segregationalist Barbie and the WIN with Nixon! Barbie of 1973. She came with a 45 record missing 18.2 minutes of a Nixon campaign speech.

McCarthy Barbie came with a briefcase purporting to contain a list of Communists in the Federal Government and two pairs of pants, one for her to wear and the other pair of pants with the key to the briefcase.

Summer of Love Barbie came with a set of real Mickey Mouse LSD stickers.

Watergate Barbie would blame the Democrats for the Watergate breakin when you pulled her string. She was dressed as a plumber but carried a CIA standard issue handgun and a set of burgler's tools.

Betty Ford Barbie came with her own private room at the Betty Ford Clinic.

You bet your Bippy Barbie dressed suspiciously like a Mod Goldie Hawn and came with a Fickle Finger of Fate Award made out to Ronald Reagan for becoming President in 1980. I remind you that the You bet your Bippy Barbie Hour show only aired for three weeks in 1972.

I know that attitudes have changed to eating disorders, but I'm still shocked that such innocent toys could have had such hidden messages.

That's not a hidden message. It's written right there in the book.

Instead of reading "Don't Eat". It should read "Don't eat, until your husbands been properly fed first and then eat the scraps."

The problem isn't these fat fattys eating too much, it's them eating too much shiatty food. Eat some vegetables and fruits instead of junk food. Is it really that difficult?

Bulimia is a trivial problem compared to obesity rates in the US.

Deal with it, fatties.

/ also the diet book is probably poking fun of dieting trends

While eating disorders are a real and very dangerous thing, we as a country could stand to eat and waste a lot less food. There may be 100M obese (not just overweight) people in this country. 100M people that would be out of breath getting up from the couch and waddling to the fridge. That is scary.

Additionally, at a slumber party, those would all be late-night calories anyhow, which are probably not very good for staying thin.

Right, the women's liberation movement empowered women to get fat and be proud of it.

Unless "society" suddenly comes to its senses and stops with all this "politically correct" BS, don't think that this isn't coming. Google "Fat Acceptance" and prepare to lose all hope for humanity.
