I always think Larry and Robin have to be the two stupidest people on the planet, but then Tomasulo and Konrad show up.

I love the whole, "They [filmmakers] might want to tell the news folks before they do this."

What? How about you not jump to conclusions in a race for the story? The cops obviously knew about it because you need a permit for stuff like that. The only fail here is you.

TFA says they asked both the cops and the FAA, and no one knew or would tell them what was going on. The cops were actually checking it out as a potential crash themselves at the time.

Sunny and 62 on Sunday.

Very nice.

The news team at WGN 720 AM made a point that movie crews release a statement to the press to avoid these situations. Tv productions do not traditionally do this.

I have to concur with some of the huffpo commenters.A breaking story with public tips and an unaware police force to straighten out the discrepancy does not make this bad reporting. An unfortunate story perhaps but who upon seeing a wrecked plane on a highway first opines it could be a movie being made?

Even more fun in the sidebar. Apparently Jordan Carver paid WGN a visit. I don't care if they're fake. I'd kill you all for a night with her. Nothing personal, of course

WTF? Are you serious? If you saw a plane in the middle of the road in multiple pieces, can you honestly tell me your first thought would be "eh, maybe it's nothing"?

Yes, because I live in a San Francisco neighborhood that continuously has film crews for TV/Film/Local live shots on a daily basis.

I work with many TV and film shoots and we never tell the press anything in advance. And if they happen to show up at a shoot they get run off by security.

Anyone want to buy a Starbucks cup drank out of by Ryan Gosling? I have a few for sale.

About 10 years ago or so, I was in New York when they were filming an action move. Some kind of Bruce Willis feature. Anyway, they crashed a couple of planes into the World Trade Center. It was all very realistic, had I not known what was going on, I would have been freaking out.

This kind of thing should happen to the WCVB morning newscasters. They'll have a teaser for a big story all throughout the half hour, then when they do get to the story they spend all of fifteen seconds on it.

CSB: My co-owner had the engine fail on him in the Snohomish River valley (near Everett, WA) and had to deadstick a landing into the Monroe, WA airport. He came in high because of the fairgrounds to the east, bounced and ran the Mooney off the runway and into the brush. To be fair, Monroe's a short field (2,000') anyway.

The next day we went out with a salvage company to haul it out of the brush and into a hangar. People driving by on U.S. 2 saw the activity and thought they were witnessing a plane crash, so they called 911, which sent the fire department out -- for the second time in 12 hours. So, if you ever have to salvage your plane, let the emergency services know ahead of time.

I have watched the chicago WGN a few times before, and they always seem way more amateurish than my local, smaller city, San Antonio news casts... I am not sure why. One would think that Chicago could attract better talent.

For some reason my basic cable service broadcasts WGN even though i'm in Upstate NY. The night time female anchor is absolutely hideous. I mean in a scary eat your children kind of way, with some of the facial contortions she makes.

I love how the woman declares that they should have notified the news media about this in advance. Since when are TV show producers required to notify the local news media about anything? If they were such a crack news team, they would have found out well before the shoot that it was going to take place. The work you saw being done didn't just spring up. Permits had to be acquired to close the street and film the scene. The plane had to be brought in and staged. Same with the "hole" in the road and the other vehicles in the staged mishap. Arrangements for real law enforcement to close the street and handle traffic had to be made. There was plenty of time for a competent news reporter to latch onto this story well before the moment caught by the traffic chopper.
