Ennuipoet ![]() "You barbarians! I'll sue the council for every penny it's got! I'll have you hung, drawn and quartered! And whipped! And boiled... until... until... until you've had enough. And then I'll do it again! And when I've finished I will take all the little bits, and I will jump on them! And I will carry on jumping on them, until I get blisters, or I can think of anything even more unpleasant to do, and then..." |

| SecretAgentWoman People of Earth, your attention, please. This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council. As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system. And regrettably, your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes. Thank you. There's no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you've had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it's far too late to start making a fuss about it now. ... What do you mean you've never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven's sake, mankind, it's only four light years away, you know. I'm sorry, but if you can't be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that's your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams. |

| Ennuipoet Apathetic bloody planet. I've no sympathy at all. |

I...that road can't have been built correctly if the house is still there. You don't simply pour asphalt on dirt and call it a day. Are they going to cut out a section that they've already paved, to do it right? |

Our house, in the middle of the street. Not road subby. 41k for a 5 story house? Homeowner got robbed. |

Now China has greater property rights than in the USA in this regard. In the USA if you fight them taking your home for some corporation you don't get compensation, you get a bill. (what happened to those in New London) |
||
| thespindrifter
FTA: "Xiayangzhang village chief Chen Xuecai told The Associated Press the house was bulldozed Saturday after its owners, duck farmer Luo Baogen and his wife, agreed to accept compensation of 260,000 yuan ($41,000). Suuuuure they did. "The razing comes a week after images of the house circulated widely online in China, triggering a flurry of domestic and foreign media reports about the latest "nail house," as buildings that remain standing as their owners resist development are called." China: the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. |

Sounds like the Chinese govt got embarassed by all the media reports and probably told this guy to move or else something very ugly was going to befall him. It sucks that they didnt give him reasonable compensation for the home. Less than half the cost just isnt right. |

When this story was mentioned a few days ago, I imagined a more sane interpretation of "built the road around the house" Luo was screwawed. |

| WTFDYW Four Horsemen of the Domestic Dispute: Our house, in the middle of the street. Not road subby. 41k for a 5 story house? Homeowner got robbed. The original article said he paid $95,000.00 U.S. dollars to build the house. |

"Luo, 67, had just completed his house at a cost of about 600,000 yuan ($95,000) when the government approached him with their standard offer of 220,000 ($35,000) to move out - which he refused, Chen has previously said. The offer then went up to 260,000 yuan ($41,000) last week. It was not immediately clear why Luo accepted the compensation in a meeting with officials Friday afternoon when the amount of money offered was the same as a week ago." I know exactly why he accepted it this week. |

I'm slightly autistic (or perhaps dumb) so when I was a kid in the early 80s, I thought that song was about a house literally in the middle of the street. Not in the middle of the block. In my mind I pictured something very like that photo. I also thought to 'TP a house' meant 'Tee Pee' as in having something to do with a conical shape. Not toilet paper. |

And who would rust first if it were to just wait while the homeowner lay in the mud ? The homeowner. Laying in the sun, your skin is oxidizing pretty soon. Were the homeowner to not move for, say, a week - well, beyond being dead, his skin would also be rather charred/sunburnt, and substantially oxidized (ie - rusted). The bulldozer, on the other hand, would not have any measurable changes during that week. |

| Ennuipoet capt.hollister: I see. Would the mud the homeowner was lying in affect the outcome in any way ? Well, the contractors might be able to make a valid claim to the Union that he constituted a mental health hazard. |
