xkcd is not-funny, and his wife should have died because of it. //just kidding. I'm really a huge fan. |

Awesome. I heart xkcd. |

God, that brings back memories, the wife and I did that dance for almost 11 years. I hope there is a better outcome for them, |

Coastalgrl: FARK CANCER. If the pharm companies are indeed sitting on a cure then those in charge need to go to the fifth circle of hell. The idea that any company that would sit on something that would make them a TON of cash is silly. The idea that there will ever be a singe cure for cancer is just, stupid. Each form of cancer is a separate disease. Many are related, but there would need to be dozens of cures for humanity to be rid of this curse. |

Coastalgrl: FARK CANCER. If the pharm companies are indeed sitting on a cure then those in charge need to go to the fifth circle of hell. They totally are. I've conducted an experiment of coating chicken wire with cancer cell cultures and it didn't melt it even a bit. The truth is out there... |

Coastalgrl: FARK CANCER. If the pharm companies are indeed sitting on a cure then those in charge need to go to the fifth circle of hell. I really doubt anyone has a cure since there are so many different ways cells can "break" and go into uncontrolled division. Some chemo drugs target rapidly dividing cells, but while they get the cancer, they get skin and blood producing cells too. It's pretty difficult to find something unique enough to use as a target when those cancer cells are almost just like your other cells. If a cure was found, it'd probably be for a particular type of cancer, and then maybe only applicable to a subset of the population. |

She was going in for GI surgery and the imaging they did to prepare found the tiny tumor in her breast. It was a month or so after this year's mammogram. |

Each form of cancer is a separate disease. Many are related, but there would need to be dozens of cures for humanity to be rid of this curse. Well, the only cause of cervical cancer is HPV and they came out a vaccine for most forms of HPV. Nobody sat on that. There are other groups that research cancer other than just pharamceutical companies. On the other hand I did once see stuff about how it was discovered that some drug made for something else might also have cancer fighting properties. Since the drug was so simple it couldn't be patented pharmaceutical companies weren't interested in putting in the money to get it approved for cancer treatment by the FDA. |

Coastalgrl: FARK CANCER. If the pharm companies are indeed sitting on a cure then those in charge need to go to the fifth circle of hell. No one is "sitting on a cure." There is no cure. XKCD has been hitting it out of the park lately. I loved this one, too. It's compassionate without descending into maudlin (or at least recognizes when it does). Which makes it more powerful. Also, My endocrinologist told me to GTFO for another year so I'm pretty damn happy as well, for me and for Munroe's wife, even if my cancer was massively less dangerous than hers. |

My cardiologist told me once that magnesium in the right dosages/formula has the potential to be a cheap, effective arrythmia treatment/controller, but Big Pharm saw the cheap part and only one study has been done on it so far. |

Because you keep looking at it, even though you don't like it? There's probably another way you could avoid it. Hmm, I wonder what that might entail. I'm stumped. |
