| Dinki ginandbacon: More like HERO. THIS. The idea that giving away your excess wealth to better the world is somehow sad is what is wrong with too many people. |

Good for her. It's a rare soul that can say "I have enough money." |
||
| Coco LaFemme
If you have that much money, you'll never spend it all before you die, and your children probably won't be able to, either. Why not take some of that money and help the lives of those who are underprivileged? I know the cliche is, "He who has the most toys, wins".....but you can't take it with you when you go. |

| Lionel Mandrake The only good excuse for being a billionaire is that you haven't yet decided who/what to give it too. |

| brantgoose I wouldn't be surprised. Those revolving staircases may be practical but they cost a heck of a lot of money to build and maintain. |

Good woman. Government funds were there to help her when she needed it. Now that she will never need it again, she is paying it forward. She deserves all the good in her life that she has. |

With over a billion dollars, you'd give some of it away to charily too... $1 million, not so much.. maybe give away 250k |

| whither_apophis I think that's the difference between million/billionaires that created something and earned their money and those born into it. The former remember when they were getting by on much less, so they know they can do something useful with the great majority. The latter have always known boatloads of money and can't imagine doing with less. /doesn't really work for the papa john dude //and, give the devil his due, the Kochs do give to science education... ///nevermind... is the game on yet? I need another beer. |

An article from March. Nice work, subby. |
||
| brantgoose "He who dies rich, dies disgraced."--Andrew Carnagie. "They certainly do." (Read that in the voice of Hardy's little buddy, Stan Laurel.) Especially if they made their money as ruthlessly as he did. But good on her, as they say in the vernacular of the UK. |

Good for her. Finally reading the Harry Potter books. Not exactly high lit, but she sure deserves her money more than Stephanie Meyer or the 50 Shades of Grey schmuck. |

I do think this is great, but this story is from March (3/10/2012). |

| Somaticasual Dinki: THIS. The idea that giving away your excess wealth to better the world is somehow sad is what is wrong with too many people. Seconded, thirded, fourth-ed, and possibly fifth-ed. It's a sad testament to greed that we idolize those that manage to sit on wealth, plus rowling knows she still won't spend all of it in her lifetime. She probably makes a retail worker's yearly salary each day in interest alone.. |

Considering the article is from March, she might have gotten back over that Billionaire label with the sale of her book. |

T-Servo: Good for her. Finally reading the Harry Potter books. Not exactly high lit, but she sure deserves her money more than Stephanie Meyer or the 50 Shades of Grey schmuck. I really enjoyed them. I was about 26 and I hated the whole Harry Potter craze and one night decided to finally watch the Sorcerer's Stone on HBO to justify my hatred. I've loved it ever since and ordered OOTP the next day(i think) from amazon for release day delivery and bought Chamber of Secrets on dvd as well like a week later right when it came out. Thankfully when I got stuck watching a few minutes of the first twilight movie it DID in fact justify my hatred of said series so I never got into that crap. I even read a few pages from the books, and was double justified. |
