| Darth_Lukecash Norman Rockwell never considered himself an artist. He thought if himself as an illustrator. He felt artist had meaning, emotions in their work. He was just trying to tell stories. Look at this picture, and tell me he wasn't an artist: |

Blushing Wall Flower: Hahaha subby! I always liked Norman Rockwell. Likewise. I'd somehow never seen that painting, though. Very cool to see a new one. |

![]() The Birmingham Museum of Art has a Norman Rockwell's America exhibit going on through 06 January. I saw it yesterday before the SEC Championship Game while the museum was less crowded (the Rockwell exhibit had a handful of patrons - there was no one in the other exhibits). I highly recommend seeing it to anyone in the area. Bring your earbuds for your smartphone for the audio portion of the tour. They'll sell you a throwaway pair for a dollar if you forget, but you'll probably be much happier with your own. / csb |

I agree tha the Rockwell exhibit at the Birmingham Museum of Art is excellent. I'd be willing to be Ross Perot bought the painting in Chicago. He has a great collection. |

Nothing is obscure on Fark...except for that headline, subby. I only got it because I'm a 48 year old geezer. Then again, I guess Fark is populated with old geezers. |

Or Ann Walton. Crystal Bridges has a Rockwell exhibition upcoming next March and is the current home of "Rosie the Riveter" among other Rockwells. |

A later entry for Headline of the Year? Great jorb, Subby! clipperbox: what was the deal with the mailman's hand at the end of that music video? i was a kid and never understood it. I think he was just making a statement about how great it was that the Post Office hired veterans, even disabled ones. Who said music videos can't have a good message? |

Nem Wan: Classic Americana. [i.imgur.com image 499x750] Well that was a WTH moment...I have almost exactly the same fridge in my house. Mine is the version that has the "condiment door" on the front of the fridge side, but otherwise it's exactly the same. It's not working anymore, I just have it taking up space in the dining room until I can find the time to take it to the recycler. |

Ah Norman, you ol' pervert, yet adored by millions. Check out that 'Ice Cream Shop' drawing and tell me that there isn't a whole lot of disturbing subtext going on. (Hint: The clerk is not really smelling the flower...) |
