For their sakes, I hope there is an age limit. |

Anyone interested in freedom of speech (or pretty much any freedom) should be extremely suspicious of an organization with the word "family" in it. "family" seems to be a code word for "censorship" |
||
| Yugoboy FTFA: "Freedom of expression must never be at the expense of the right to protect children and families from offensive and inappropriate behaviour." Allow me to fix this statement... Freedom of expression must never be at the Free speech is sacred. Nudity is not harmful... "Fire!" in a crowded theater is, encouraging others to commit acts of violence on people is. That speech isn't free... it's very very expensive. |

farking Puritans, their archaic mores have caused so much unnecessary expenditure, it's ridiculous. |
||
| DON.MAC Maybe the Crown Solicitor can take it to the high court with "some people thing its wrong. I rest my case" and when they define it, ask the Queen for an answer. The deal will be done unless she replies and I wouldn't expect her to say anything about the legal issue but might make a statement about the properness of such things. |

I couldn't jog naked. I'd either bruise my knees or get all tangled in a most painful way. |

Nudity /= Sex. People forget that way too often. |

zekeburger: Nudity /= Sex. People forget that way too often. Yeah, no matter how naked I get at the bar, I'm not getting women to pile on me, it's usually a bouncer throwing me out. |

Day_Old_Dutchie: "family" seems to be a code word for "censorship" Not quite. It's a code word for "theocracy", of which "censorship" is just one small aspect. |

*GASP* ![]() Nude BEFORE it was cool = actually it looks sort of cold there |

| It's pronounced pacKAGE
They keep saying it's offensive, but never explain why. It's all skin. Why is one square inch of skin any more or less offensive than any other square inch. It doesn't make sense. |

FTFA: In Mr Pointon's case, it was clearly indecent Please explain why. This is what the entire case is about. The entire letter is meaningless without justifying this one statement. One statement that the judge disagreed with. |

It's pronounced pacKAGE: Why is one square inch of skin any more or less offensive than any other square inch. It doesn't make sense. Because Jesus, that's why. It makes perfect sense to them. |

Wanna know something really depressing? The two Family First parties are an attempt by the Assemblies of God church to create US-style conservative christian political parties in New Zealand and Australia. Teabaggers aren't a US phenomenon any more, they're spreading to other nations like a plague. |

| mbillips As much as I hate wingnuts, especially Xtian wingnuts, I'm OK with rules requiring people to cover up their junk in public. You wanna get naked outdoors on private property, go nuts, but you oughta get a ticket for doing it in public. It's irritating and gross, and it ain't speech. |

"family" seems to be a code word for "censorship" Yeap. Where I come the term 'The Family' is generally remembered as a name for a group of serial killers - of course that didn't stop Family First (which is mostly funded and supported by the Assembly of God evangelical church (the later two words not deserving of capitals.) They pretend to be just an ordinary community political party - but somehow every comment they make brings One Nation to mind (only worse, because they are not remotely honest.) And as for nudity - I recon if you can control your displays of arousal then go for it (bit like people at nudist beaches - never very much fun to watch, but meh they aren't offending me.) |

Personally I would like ugly people to wear masks and fat people to not be allowed to wear tight clothes, but I do not let my personal irritations get in the way of other people's freedoms (I can always turn my head away and often do :D |

Reminds me of an awful joke...to whit: What is the difference between a female jogger and a sewing machine? A sewing machine only has one bobbin. Badum Tshh! Thank you, thank you |

People who believe nudity is "harmful to children" should stay clothed and never breed. /that, alone, would make the world a slightly better place. |

zekeburger: Nudity /= Sex. People forget that way too often. This is true. Amusingly, in certain online communities (online games, like MMOs or MUCKs), there's a very visible crowd of folks who for whatever reason chose to have naked characters. Lots of modeling of nude characters (and penises) in SecondLife. MUCKs (MUDs that aren't about RPG things, just more "here is a world, be social", minecraft and SecondLife in text) often are populated with a number of people wearing loincloths for God knows why, or just naked. These places have public areas like bars, parks, town centers (plazas etc), schools... and people just ... socialize. Naked. Now I'm seeing an entire generation of basement-dwelling nerds whose only social life is on a four-screen DEC ALPHA jacked into TinyMU or a Linux machine running SecondLIfe, and they're like... "Men can go topless, women should have equal rights!" "Nudity in public: Not obscene!" and such. Mother of God, when i'm 35 we'll regularly see college folks wandering the streets naked in the spring/fall. |

Just because you are offended does not make you right. A lot of people in this world need to realise this. |

And constitutional scholars all over say you're wrong on that last bit. Sorry. |
