Famous sculpture worth £500,000, goes for just £46 at a scrap dealer Sounds to me like it was worth 46 pounds. |

Relatively Obscure ![]() What a Hertfordshire scrapyard owner might look like. |

jimmyego ![]() ![]() Future MPs if I ever saw them. |

| Mangoose See, where I come from stealing a half a million dollar piece of art from some guy is a much heavier prison term than a year. Stealing a 46 dollar piece of art would get you a year. |
||
| RexTalionis Bunch of chavs. |
||
| doglover 46 Quid is the right price for an old bronze sundial. I don't care how dead the artist is. Really it's his fault for breaking the mold. Could be infinitely replaceable. |

"Priceless"? Seems it had 2 prices. |

Hmm. I have this sculpture that's worth $800K and small enough to be carried away. I know, I just leave it outside, more or less unsecured where anyone can just take it! /Brilliant! |
||
Ed Grubermann ![]() That's a face that just makes you want to beat the shiat out of the guy. Sad thing is his dad probably did beat the shiat out of him. |

I went down to the Henry Moore Skated all in the Square The moon above my shoulder And the ice was in my hair Alone but never lonely That's how I like to be If you want to have fun Like a rock'n roll bum Don't think the worst of me |

You can find the same thing at any nursery or big-box garden section for $65. Then, if you want, you can lie and say it was made by some guy no one's ever heard of. You can save hundreds of thousands of dollars. |

Agreed, when I saw this yesterday...I just thought, utter subhuman scum...Now to read that they did a little better on their second acquisition...getting 186 quid for £100,000 worth of plinth, makes my piss fizz even more. Why don't people understand the beauty and value of things? |

Is this a thread where we argue that functional value should be the same as artistic value, and that if we can't appreciate certain qualities of an object, those qualities have no value? |

Why don't people understand the beauty and value of things? Long version . . . people like that never made the effort to make, create, build, or construct anything, leading to a complete lack of recognition of or appreciation for, the efforts of others. Short version = They're morons. |

I really hate scrappers, any metal left unattended for more than an hour seems to be fair game to them. /Still bitter over the antique wrought iron railing stolen off my deck while I was on vacation one year |

Reminds of some story a few years back when a sculptor, whose work fetch between the several hundreds of thousands to the millions, had his own private sculpture garden raided. He lived out in the middle of the desert and thought his work would be fine. It wasn't even noticed until he was hosting a dinner party one night, invited his guests to take a stroll in his outdoor collection and they found everything was gone. |

The scrap dealer owns some of this. Some wankers come in with something looking like art. "Sure, I will give you £46 for it. Just scrap, right?" I mean, come on. It wasn't a wagon of cut wires, or a basket of copper. It had shape and form. |

Yes. You are in the right place. Want to buy my Mona Lisa? $75 for you. That is stupid. I can buy a piece of wood with some paint on it for $20 at lowe's. Only an idiot would pay $75 for that piece of crap from some guy that no one has ever heard of. |

T.M.S.: Ignorance is nothing to be proud of. Who said anything about pride? And you aren't going to sit there and tell me that Moore is well-known. Christ, TMS, you're usually better than this. |

Christ, TMS, you're usually better than this. Perhaps I'm biased because we had a huge Henry Moore in the center of my college campus. (Seriously ugly) But I still don't think he is particularly obscure. Although until today I had no idea he was British. |

Charles Snelling, in mitigation for Parker, said his client was 'drifting into delinquency' and had been hit hard by his girlfriend's miscarriage, which happened shortly before the theft. I love when asshats try to spin their misfortune as the reason for their breaking the law. "Your honor. My client was devastated by the fact that the weekend was over. It wasn't his fault. Blah, blah, blah." |
