Ew, scratch the "good looking" part. Also, when people say they like "bad boys" they don't usually mean murderers.

He's a complete nutjob.

Protip: When the local generalissimo comes around looking for a hand-out, "no" is NOT the correct answer.

Back when MDPV was still legal (now schedule I as of July I believe), after briefly studying reports I quickly came to the conclusion that I would never ever in my life consume this substance. Thanks, John, for once again reassuring me that I have chosen wisely.

/seriously, that stuff is BAD

Confirming for the world he's a nutcase using sleep-depriving paranoia inducing meds.

The cardinal rules of recreational use are you don't draw attention to yourself, and you don't stay up past the third day. Pace yourself, don't get cracked out.

Fail on both, apparently.

// What, why is everyone looking at me, I'm just trying to help the guy. Too late, it seems.

He embodies much of what the American public loves in a protagonist: wealthy, good-looking, self-sufficient, bad boy - Richard Branson crossed with Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Dog's a racist prick and Branson never murdered anybody.

Seriously SFGate, do you even know the "American public" or what the word "protagonist" means?

I missed that whole "he's on bath salts" story. And I can't seem to find one from a decent source, nor one that pre-dates his neighbor getting offed.

Great, an insane, drugged up millionaire is wandering around the jungles of Guatemala. If he ends up stumbling on some hidden Mayan temple and unleashes Quatzequatel or something upon the world on Dec. 21, I'm going to be so pissed because he proved those nutjobs right.

I'm not convinced of the murder charge. Maybe he did it. If I were wasted out of my mind and found out someone poisoned all of my dogs and had guns and I strongly suspected a particular neighbor of mine I might shoot them but we don't know that he was wasted out of his mind when he found out about his dogs and he's not me so he might not react the same way.

And I really haven't heard any evidence that he killed his neighbor either, but he does seem to have made some enemies down there and so he might just be being railroaded.

AFAIK, his drug of choice is something he cooked up himself that starts with the chemical commonly labelled as "bath salts" and involves cooking it down and extracting some substance that seeps out of it. I think he calls it "tan". There was a whole thread about this on DTRFH. Link

I don't think software guys should be designing their own drugs.

That doesn't seem like it could go anywhere good at all.

They know where he's at. He turned up in Guatemala City with his lawyer and is planning on applying for asylum. Since Guatemala has no extradition treaty with Belize and he hasn't broken any Guatemalan laws he is in no immediate danger as far as I understand it.

Also, some idiot at Vice magazine accidentally revealed his exact coordinates a few days ago when they posted a cell phone pic with GPS data imbedded in it.

SixOfDLoC's link looks pretty legit too. This is the first time I've seen the whole "he's making his own drugs" connection--but I'm not paying much attention to this story. Well, that explains a whole lot, doesn't it? Tons of money, tons of ego, and homemade drugs--what could go wrong?

King John was not a good man -
He had his little ways.
And sometimes no one spoke to him
For days and days and days.
And men who came across him,
When walking in the town,
Gave him a supercilious stare,
Or passed with noses in the air -
And bad King John stood dumbly there,
Blushing beneath his crown.

Did bath salts, or at least a variety of similar substances from a variety of sources anyway, for over 6 months.

Never committed a violent act while under the influence.

Never developed an addication, though I was aware and respectful of the 'moreish' feel it caused.

Was able to imbibe during breaks at the office where I work in a technical capacity and received postive performance review for the period.

Still haven't tasted face.

If you haven't done it, you don't know. If you have, was that all you were doing? I never met anyone who did only salts. I think a lot of the worst behavior resulted from people with mental issues self medicating or people with behavioral issues and combinations of substances combined with sleep deprivation.

Did anyone else notice that the descriptions of the effects of bath salts and of spice were pretty much the same thing?

That sounds about right for a computer security expert on the level of McAfee - distributing pics from his cell phone without stripping out metadata that might reveal his location.

Spice has its own issues, but it's still just cannibinoids, synthetic though they may be. I do think that the problem with MDPV, or really any of these `designer' drugs is that they fall into the hands of people who just want to get "farked up". They don't understand the substance, they take heroic doses, and bad things come of it. I am sure that people have used MDPV recreationally with no issues, they just don't make the news when they do so.
