This is absurd, the man should not have been on the highway with a bicycle, and he shouldn't be contesting the search. The fact is he was already concealing something from the officer from the get-go. He was giving many cues "acting fidgety, carrying pocket-knife", and the officer was performing his due diligence by initiating the search. There are many consensual police encounters everyday, and they do not result in searches. Mainly because the people involved having nothing to hide.

"You can't kill me for being Krusty! I'm not him! I'm Homer Simpson."
"The same Homer Simpson who crashed his car through the wall of our club?"
"Uh, actually my name is Barney! Barney Gumble."
"The same Barney Gumble who keeps taking pictures of my sister?"
"Uh, actually, my REAL name is, uh...Joe Valachi!"
"The same Joe Valachi who squealed to the Senate Committee about organized crime?"
"Benedict Arnold!"
"The same Benedict Arnold who plotted to surrender West Point to the hated British?"
"D'oh!"

This happened to some old friends of mine who I don't associate with anymore. Guy one has a warrant and gets pulled over, gives guys 2 name, guy 2 also has a warrant. Guy 1 goes in, gets out and then skips his court date. They go pick up guy 2 at guy 2's house who now has 2 warrants.

Guy 2 is pissed at guy 1 mad drama ensues.

A friend of mine gave a cop her sisters name when she knew that a local store had taken out a warrant for a bad check, turns out her sister was wanted for not paying a ticket she got a year earlier.....

What do you do when the court just makes up a fake driver's license number to suspend from some guy with the same name and gets his birth date wrong? Every eight years I need to explain to my state MVD that NY is a bunch of idiots, and the suspension in the system is not me.

You obviously have not had to deal with NY State DMV.

This happened to one of my employees a couple of months ago. He had been pulled over a few times with an suspended license, so he stole the license of a friend who looked like him; however, he did not know that his friend's license had also been suspended. A few weeks later, he gets stopped and ticketed for driving on his friends suspended license. So the dumbass goes to court pretending to be the friend but, since it is a small town and he was well known to law enfoecement, the recognized him and called him out. He got to spend three months as a guest of the county for identity theft...you can't fix stupid, I guess.

I tried to get it corrected by calling the ironically named Department of Corrections, but they were no help at all.
