Quantum Apostrophe Did he use the ejection seat? Back in the 1980's I saw a NASA film about a proposed helicopter with ejection seats that used explosive charges to eject the blades .Anyone know if they ever tried that thing out? |

Meet the Ka-50. "Before the rocket in the ejection seat deploys, the rotor blades are blown away by explosive charges in the rotor disc and the canopy is jettisoned." |

Ah yes, the news helicopter, the symbol of news organization's desire to get the story first, rather than get the story right. And then there's this: 2007 Phoenix News Helicopter Crash |

I know they did in that scene in GoldenEye. |

edmo: danielscissorhands: Can someone explain wtf is up with the headline? Now I haz a sad. It's a great headline. You get SAD easily. Have you tried vitamin D, or light therapy? MarkEC: danielscissorhands: Can someone explain wtf is up with the headline? Imitating the sound of a helicopter reporters voice before noise cancelling microphones. Uhh, ok. Thanks. GonzoNihilist: danielscissorhands: Can someone explain wtf is up with the headline? took me a few tries too. *high five* dofus: danielscissorhands: Can someone explain wtf is up with the headline? I'm going to assume you've never been in a small helicopter... You assume correctly. I've also never been in a big helicopter, or a medium sized helicopter. Sargun: danielscissorhands: Can someone explain wtf is up with the headline? "News helicopter pioneer dies at 91" Yes, I knew that. ;) |

| saturn badger oryx: Ah yes, the news helicopter, the symbol of news organization's desire to get the story first, rather than get the story right. And then there's this: 2007 Phoenix News Helicopter Crash KNXV pilot-reporter Craig Smith and anchor Rebecca Thomas were describing events live when Smith was heard to exclaim "Oh, geez!" as the image broke up and violent crashing noises were heard. I think I would have used stronger language. The day of the accident, Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris brought up the possibility that the suspect in the chase the two helicopters were watching could "be held responsible for any of the deaths from this tragedy." Why? They were newshounds working on a story. It is not his fault they doubled down. On July 13, 2010 Christopher Jermaine Jones pleaded guilty to 35 crimes stemming from the July 2007 police chase. Jones was not charged in the deaths of the helicopter occupants. As it should be. I have been on many Cessna and other rides. The scariest I have seen was another Cessna passing below our plane at about 30 yards or so. That is just an estimate but I could see the pilot clearly. I know part of my job as a passenger is to keep an eye out for such but it happened so fast I could only inform him after the fact. I had my camera in hand shooting the landscape but that one happened real fast and I missed it. |
