For some odd reason, I love it that the poster for The Big Lebowski features that one guy shouting "I JUST BOUGHT THAT CAR!" It's just so surrealistically hilarious.

We do it here too. As a kid a friend and i went to see this movie called "Screamers", the movie poster advertised it was about men turned inside out, and looked like a zombie flick. Instead it was about Atlantis and fish people.

Looks like a Ralph Steadman piece (the guy who did the illustrations in Hunter Thompson books). It looks like his style, but I can't make out the signature at the bottom.

The neighbor character getting the only speaking line on the poster for a movie in which he only has one speaking line.

I think rather than being misleading, the Polish posters are largely more conceptual than American ones. Most of them are better, honestly, or at least more visually interesting than "here's a picture of all the big starts, now give us money."

To think, Poland's now a democracy. I'd love to see their constitution. Article 14: The Persident shall, from time to time, denounce the pomegranate wildly from the interior of the nether pigeons.

There's a documentary called "Freedom on the Fence" about how the poster artists would evade censorship in the Soviet era. The posters are highly collectible, but you could probably find some more recent ones for a decent price. I love them.

I'm pretty sure the Polish artists were 1) high and 2) total smart asses.

But then you notice the little bits of matter flying out the back of the hole in the middle of the opponent's face and you realize that what they've actually drawn here is a boxer punching an awesome hole through the head of the other boxer.

Not sure if its been covered, but if you get polish posters for people, you should know a lot if those are not theatrical release posters ( lebowski, raging bull, and a few others)but rather works done at a later date as sort of special editions. They tend to run 25-30 bucks for the more mass produced ones. Actual theatre release originals have a wide variance in prices. If you buy and want originals, pay careful attention to the publication date. If you just want the wackyness then it's all fair game.

also, polishposter.com is by far the best site to buy from.

This guy is a legitimate artist. He's done shows in Fort Collins, CO. I'll bet he has met Ralph Steadman.
