It sunk his campaign, it changed (or at least sealed) the outcome of the Presidential election. It also revived class warfare sentiments that the media had been working hard to choke down ever since the Occupy protests were crushed.

It forever cast Mitt Romney in the public eye as an out-of-touch rich man who, while speaking to fellow millionaires, expresses contempt for the everyday man.

It managed to smear Mitt Romney, the Republicans as a whole, and the wealthy all by his own words.

It will almost certainly go down in history alongside Dukakis in the Tank in terms of politically memorable gaffes

(Gerald Ford saying there was no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe was close too in terms of sinking a campaign in one statement, but not as photogenic as the tank or as scathing as the 47% line)

Both were valid points, clearly stated. But, people are idiots, so...

Definitely the most entertaining on the list (the "horses and bayonets" is up there as intentionally funny), but the 47% was probably the most significant (with "legitimate rape" a close second because it definitely cost the GOP a senate seat and possibly a second in North Dakota, along with Mourdock's comments it also kept the national dialogue on social issues that the GOP was better off avoiding).

It was nice that they include some good, reasonable quotes, such as Chris Christie's.

Well, you can't feel bad about the fact that you aren't as good a politician as Slick Willy or your opponent wasn't as terrible as Jimmy Carter (how come he doesn't have a cool nickname, and no "Peanut Farmer" does not count). It also didn't hurt that while the numbers were bad they have been consistently improving over Obama's term and the GOP was shooting itself in the foot with obstructionism diverting blame from the president.

The issue is not that he is unlikable. It's that the GOP's ideas don't work, aren't popular, and Americans don't want them.

You know, the funny thing about the "you didn't build that" slogan was that I saw in later rallies morph into "We built it" -- which was Obama's point. That the business were not built by a single person but by the community that supported that business.

Look at the bright side, once we can take care of the Congress problem I don't see how the GOP will ever win an election again. It truly is something to look forward to.
