Plus a lifetime achievement award in shooting himself in the foot. Unfortunately his thighs now end in bloody stumps. |
||
| UseUrHeadFred Personally, I thought his best quote was, "I have just called President Obama to congratulate him on his victory." |

I knew he could do it! |

"Best" in the sense that it helped sink his campaign? |

Still got nothing on GWB. |

Wasn't this made off the record in private? More of a strategy discussion, you know... the road ahead is nigh on impossible, but we are going to give it a go anyway, or whatnot. |

"Debate remarks and gaffes actually seemed to play an important role in the ups and downs of the election campaign and may even have affected the ultimate outcome of the election," Shapiro said. Top of his class at the Romero Institute for Communication, eh? |

bluefoxicy: Wasn't this made off the record in private? More of a strategy discussion, you know... the road ahead is nigh on impossible, but we are going to give it a go anyway, or whatnot. Because even in that context, it's dumb as hell. That 47% includes 60 some odd million retirees on social security and I'll bet you my left nut they aren't all straight Democrat ticket voters like it implies. |

It was at a private dinner with wealthy donors. Hell, if that's not out of touch then I don't know what is |

I still vote "Binders full of women"... |

jaytkay: "Best" in the sense that it helped sink his campaign? It was the single most influential statement made all year. It sunk his campaign, it changed (or at least sealed) the outcome of the Presidential election. It also revived class warfare sentiments that the media had been working hard to choke down ever since the Occupy protests were crushed. It forever cast Mitt Romney in the public eye as an out-of-touch rich man who, while speaking to fellow millionaires, expresses contempt for the everyday man. It managed to smear Mitt Romney, the Republicans as a whole, and the wealthy all by his own words. It will almost certainly go down in history alongside Dukakis in the Tank in terms of politically memorable gaffes (Gerald Ford saying there was no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe was close too in terms of sinking a campaign in one statement, but not as photogenic as the tank or as scathing as the 47% line) What other quote or brief statement made this year was so politically, culturally and historically noteworthy? |

| someonelse bluefoxicy: Wasn't this made off the record in private? More of a strategy discussion, you know... the road ahead is nigh on impossible, but we are going to give it a go anyway, or whatnot. That's exactly why it hurt him so badly. Everyone got to see what he really thinks. |

Ten years from now few of these will still be relevant. "Corporations are people, my friend," will still be with us. It should have been on the list and near the top. |
||
| Jgok
I dunno "math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better" was my favourite so far this year. |

Corporations are at least three people. LLC's can be one person. ergo, corporations are people. I though we settled this. /my friend |

George HW Bush was voted out of office over the economy and bad unemployment figures, neither of which approaches how bad both are compared to Obama's first term. So Romney must feel like crap for losing a winnable election. Romney just made himself so unlikable. |
||
| FlashHarry if you listen to the quote again - pay attention to how he says the word "entitled." you can almost hear the venom dripping from his maw at that point. his absolute disdain for the middle class is palpable. america is truly lucky that this asshole will never occupy the oval office. |
||
| dickfreckle thetubameister: I still vote "Binders full of women"... I never got the uproar over "binders full of women." It was clear what he was trying to say. On the other hand, "you didn't build that" became a rallying call for the right, despite the obvious context it was stripped of. Politics suck. |

thetubameister: I still vote "Binders full of women"... Definitely the most entertaining on the list (the "horses and bayonets" is up there as intentionally funny), but the 47% was probably the most significant (with "legitimate rape" a close second because it definitely cost the GOP a senate seat and possibly a second in North Dakota, along with Mourdock's comments it also kept the national dialogue on social issues that the GOP was better off avoiding). It was nice that they include some good, reasonable quotes, such as Chris Christie's. |

Well, you can't feel bad about the fact that you aren't as good a politician as Slick Willy or your opponent wasn't as terrible as Jimmy Carter (how come he doesn't have a cool nickname, and no "Peanut Farmer" does not count). It also didn't hurt that while the numbers were bad they have been consistently improving over Obama's term and the GOP was shooting itself in the foot with obstructionism diverting blame from the president. |

For me the entire race came down to this quote: Joe Biden to Rep. Paul Ryan: "Facts matter." |

It's that the GOP's ideas don't work, aren't popular, and Americans don't want them. |

You know, the funny thing about the "you didn't build that" slogan was that I saw in later rallies morph into "We built it" -- which was Obama's point. That the business were not built by a single person but by the community that supported that business. |

To people like Romney we all are in binders somewhere....usually the binder of people who's jobs they are sending overseas. |

Just before that, Romney said "The government can't create jobs!". So he did one of his famous flip-flops in less than a minute, a personal record for him. Also, can you tell us how he would have done that? Romney certainly never told us. |

As an outsider looking in.... Obama got handed a shiate sandwhich by GWB and his cronies. To put the blame for the first term on Obama would be like the captain of the the Titanic handing the keys to the janitor after they hit the iceberg and saying 'You drive', and after the ship sinks saying "but.... the janitor was driving." |

Homer Nixon: Best quote of the election? "Please proceed, governor." That one's going into PoliSci textbooks for decades to come. When you're getting ready to deliver what you consider is a scathing attack on your opponent, he hears you, smiles, and politely tells you to go ahead... you may need to reconsider your cunning plan, and quickly. |
