When did we start naming things in memorial for people that weren't even dead yet? Did it start with Reagan Airport or was it Jimmy Carter Blvd in GA? It's awful practice. I'm just waiting for them to rename something like the Tappan Zee bridge to "The (insert political face) Bridge" and then the guy/gal end up the center of some awful scandal/conspiracy...

You mean other than the fact that he was a Native son of MD, sucessfully argued Brown V. Board, and was a Supreme Court Justice?

Well how about this: He wrote a concurrence in an obscenity prosecution case that mde it clear that, with the exception of child porn, the Constitution would never allow a person to be criminally prosecuted under obscenity laws for mere private possession of porn.

That alone should make him a hero to every man that's ever used the Internet

No, it most certainly wasn't. The reason J. Edgar Hoover denied the Mafia even existed until RFK began his crusade against it was becuase Meyer Lansky had in his possession a photo of J. Edgar in a dress going down on another guy (Meyer was strongly rumored to be at least bi- himself). This photo was shared with the CIA during the Mob's brief period of cooperation with CIA on the plots to assasinate Castro and liberate Cuba, and was brought out anytime the CIA felt J.Edgar was breathing down thier necks.

LBJ was reportedly aware fo the photo as well which is why he was the only US president who could make J. Edgar Hoover obey orders. The existence of the Photo has been confirmed by Lansky's longtime mistress and serveral CIA operatives who saw it at one time or another.

I don't think J Edgar qualifies as a Transgender, just because he wore a dress, and given his vicous "gay baiting" he tried to do during the McCarthy hearings, (using information he and Roy Cohn acquired by being part of the same closeted community-that's what was behind Welch's famous "have you no decency" quote: McCarthy was trying to "out" an Army officer on the stand, and Welch knew WHY Kohn had been able to obtain that information for McCarthy) I think the gay community disowned him long ago

I've long thought naming things after people who still draw breath is a mistake.

Until they've been dead a few years there is likely to be skeletons popping out of the closet. No matter how thrilled you are about that person, a live person is a flawed person, and that means a propensity to do things that will be really embarrassing.

I have to agree wit Prince Charles when it comes to Brutalist architecture: "You have to give this much to the Luftwaffe, when it knocked down our buildings, it didn't replace them with anything more offensive than rubble."

Large, concrete, Brutalist buildings have all the charm of a smack to the head. They look like something transported from Soviet Russia whole and unfinished.

Not only should that building be leveled to the ground, but the earth salted so that nothing can return in memory of that hideous monstrosity. They should throw in the demolition of one of these evil creations at every University in the country.

/also Hoover was a dick and our government shouldn't be renting out over half-a-dozen annexes for the FBI.

The Vatican figured this out ages ago. It's why they wait a bit after people have snuffed it to begin considering them for sainthood, and appoint a "devil's advocate" whose job it is to uncover all the reasons the person SHOULDN'T be cannonized.

You mean like the Ritacco Center?

Michael Ritacco was the Superintendent of the Toms River School district in New Jersey. He also owned a custruction and real estate company. During his tenure he had this sports stadium complex, built by the Board of Education for sports events, concerts, etc. The school district also owned commercial office buildings, a deli and couple other "businesses" in the town. None of these "businesses" made any money for the board of education, infact they were costing the board millions of dollars a year. The manager for the school owned Deli was making close to 150K a year and they had to hire an assistant manager to "help" (run the day to day). Ritacco's company would also buy land in the town and resell to the board of education, of course at inflated values.

A couple years ago the feds raided his beach house mansion in Seaside (I wonder if it is still there) and seized in 500K Mercedees, there was thread on that here someplace. After he was arrested for an insurance scam that costed the school district millions, the Board of Education covered up the Ritacco Center signs on the building and eventually licensed the name to the Pine Belt Arena, a local car dealership group.

The fact that you boil down what was just said into that .gif just proves to me you do not have anything of serious value to add to the convo, not that you aren't bad at Farking (though this is a case where being a good Farker means you aren't adding anything to the convo). Marshall's contributions to US free speech- you know, an actual liberty we all use- is pretty underrated by most, especially if one thinks being President automatically makes one historically "cool" enough to have the proposed new FBI headquarters named after him.
