They did a great job of taking pictures that made that building look quite ordinary. |

The photos were so close that it was hard to get an idea of the scale. |

| akula you have pee hands: They did a great job of taking pictures that made that building look quite ordinary. I thought the same thing. There's no way to get any kind of feel for it from those pics. Sure, it looks big, but no larger than many other office complexes. No sense of scale in there at all. |

It's nice to come first, but then your girlfriend's going to gripe at you for not being attentive to her needs. |

1km long hallways? I can't be the only one thinking Chair Races!!! |

Just think of all the thousands of identical-looking Chinese bureaucrats obsessively working away in that building busily figuring out new ways of controlling their media or loaning money to the US, on workstations with bootleg copies of MS Windows. |

Whatever turns you on. I was imagining thousands of hot identical looking Chinese busty ladies obsessively working away in that building busily figuring out new ways of making me happy fun time. |

No areial shot? LAAAAAAAME! |

| factoryconnection Parking must be an unholy pain in the ass for that place. The Pentagon, even with its dedicated Metro stop, bus stops, organized slugging and incentivized car-pooling is painful when it comes to parking. ChrisDe: The photos were so close that it was hard to get an idea of the scale. I found it on GoogleMaps. Those are full-sized sports stadia next to it. |

Made me think of Steve Martin's "The Jerk" with building momma a bigger house and all- Pentagon's still the biggerly one eh? I read years ago that no other building in the world had more doors than the Pentagon. Wretched excess wins every time. |

is only beaten by -the United States' Department of Defense behemoth, the Pentagon. Betting there will be a "useless" addition built on very soon. |

Eh, you can sort of see it, but you really have to squint. Plus there is some gook on my monitor that I should probabry wipe off to see it more crearry. |

Really? I thought the Boeing Everett Factory was the largest building in the world. It has it's own weather patterns. Maybe if they whittle that down to largest "office" building limited to X floors? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ largest_buildings_in_the_world |

That sure as hell doesn't look like it's a kilometer long. Perhaps it has huge windows. |

It appears to be the large building just south of Labia Stadia? |

BEF might be largest by volume. |

| ronaprhys
Is this in one of those Chinese cities they build to inflate their GDP but that have no people in them? |
||
| factoryconnection Bondith: They article mentioned floor space. BEF might be largest by volume. The Boeing plant is total coverage, I think, but interior volume might be it. Since it is mostly single-story, that's how these office buildings end up being "larger." ronaprhys: Is this in one of those Chinese cities they build to inflate their GDP but that have no people in them? No; there are cars and active infrastructure visible in the satellite shots unlike in the "ghost towns" I've seen that you're talking about. FuturePastNow: That sure as hell doesn't look like it's a kilometer long. Perhaps it has huge windows. The perimeter appears to be about 300x180m so the "kilometer-long" hallways is misleading. |

SAN66: I thought the Boeing Everett Factory was the largest building in the world. It has it's own weather patterns. Maybe if they whittle that down to largest "office" building limited to X floors? Yeah, they confused "office building" with "all buildings." There are a number of others that are bigger than this - the main building of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando is slightly larger, for example, and a couple of other convention centers are in the same league. There are a lot of different "biggest lists," according to whether they use footprint, available floor space, volume, et cetera. The Abraj Al-Bait Towers are currently the biggest by floor area - it's a contiguous building complex made up of several towers, and is about 1.5 million square meters... |

I can easily build the world's largest office building by floor space by building a fairly large cube and putting in floors that are 3" apart. Just sayin'. Too bad only mice will be able to work there. |

They couldn't have just one aerial shot to show the entire building? |
||
| Lsherm Having had to park near and navigate the Pentagon a few times, I can't see why anyone on earth would want to replicate the experience. At some point a building gets so big you start missing transportation. |
||

It looks so rectangular. I mean, how much more rectangular could it be? |
||
| JackieRabbit
But it is not the world's second largest building. It's not even close. Target's import warehouse in Lacey, WA is both in terms of usable space and footprint. ShortList FAIL |

| factoryconnection JackieRabbit: But it is not the world's second largest building. It's not even close. Target's import warehouse in Lacey, WA is both in terms of usable space and footprint. ShortList FAIL Floorspace, Jackie, floorspace. Warehouses are single-story; TFA's monstrosity is many floors, giving a multiplier effect over straight footprint behemoths. Based on sattelite imagery, that warehouse is 128,000 square meters. Long'ao is 370,000 mostly because it looks to have at least 17 floors. Tsar_Bomba1: Looks empty... Look at the GMaps link; the parking lot is full. The big lot next to it (for the stadium perhaps) is empty though. |

as usual its always about height and never about girth...heavy sigh |

Wow, that headline reminded me of something I hadn't thought of in ages. In summer camp when I was a kid, there was another kid who would always annoyingly act like he was the leader -- in almost every situation he would enthusiastically but presumptively try to order everyone to do what he thought they needed to do. Everybody would just ignore him or roll their eyes, prompting him to always whine "You guuuuuuyyyyys!?!" as if we were being hopelessly uncooperative. Some kids even started to imitate him in mockery when he said that, but it didn't appear to phase him -- he'd get pouty but then try again to boss people in the next situation, to no avail. /kinda sad story, bro //hope he eventually chilled out |
