| Rev. Skarekroe Lsherm: The book is about a school teacher (naturally) that gets even with her cheating husband by having affairs with two former students. As long as they are former students... Yeah, it's not like it's Beezus and Ramona slashfic or something. |
||
| Lsherm Rev. Skarekroe: Lsherm: The book is about a school teacher (naturally) that gets even with her cheating husband by having affairs with two former students. As long as they are former students... Yeah, it's not like it's Beezus and Ramona slashfic or something. That sounds terrible... |
||
| Somacandra Lsherm: As long as they are former students... Its fiction. She, an English teacher, got punished for writing a work of fiction. Let that sink in for a moment. If she had written a non-erotic work, do you think she would have been punished for with administrative leave and suspensions for using a computer to conduct "social networking of a personal nature?" The school is a public school--punishing her for publishing a work of fiction because they don't approve of the content. It seems there is a free speech issue here if she wants to tackle it. And she's apparently hired an attorney. Good for her. |

The description claims the book is "Chelsea Handler MEETS Fifty Shades of Grey" ... "His treachery runs deeper than you know...by fould craft Saruman has crossed Chelsea Handler with Fifty Shades of Grey, he's printing stacks of them in the caverns of Isengard..." |
||
| Pocket Ninja That article read like it was written by a high school English student who isn't doing very well in class. |

Well, I personally think she should be able to write whatever she wants, but if she had written a novel about banging underage students in her class, I could see how that would rile people up. What I meant was that it didn't sound like a big deal to me in the first place because she clearly wasn't writing about anything controversial. |

Yeah, it's not like it's Beezus and Ramona slashfic or something. You know, that probably exists somewhere. I'm sure as hell not going to try to find it though. |

| doyner So if she wrote it under a pen name then doesn't that mean she wasn't trying to have it attributed to her? Anyone find out how she was outed in the first place? |
||
| Makh Female teacher sleeping with students...Ok. Writing an erotic book under a pen name...Bad. She wrote and published a book that got great reviews. That makes her better than most English professors, taboo material included. /Education system is farked. Oh and this will only sell more copies. |

People need to decide if our educators are meant to be full-time role-models or free adults... Everyone I talk to seems to have some arbitrary b.s. limit for what teachers are allowed to do in their free time. This lady just wrote a book, so that's okay. But if she were in a porno? Not okay. Unless it was a long time ago. Working as a stripper? Obviously that's not acceptable, right? Male teacher arrested for banging some tranny hooker outside in a park (outside of school hours) - well, OBVIOUSLY, in that case, we should consider what they do outside of class to impact their ability to teach. Right? I don't much care either way, I'm just asking for some consistency. |

So, you can just write a book and sell it on Amazon as a digital download and not have to go through a publisher? Awesome...I have some erotic novels/ semi-autobiographical novel involving a boy, his dog and a jar of peanut butter. |

| WhippingBoy Why do so many ugly people read/write erotica. Don't they realize that it creeps the rest of us out? |

| WTFDYW Article is farked on my end. Did it say she was fired? According to a Cleveland reporter I heard interviewed today, she still has her job and should have nothing to worry about. If he's correct, how is she 50 shades of screwed? Kinda funny side note: When he was asked what she looked like, he said "I'm not going to comment on her proportions, but she has a kind of cute face". |

So, which red state is this that is punishing this woman? I just know it is, just as I know those who are leading the charge against her are middle aged "Christian" women with the physique of a sack of potatoes and a heart full of hate and jealousy. |

At this rate it will be harder to be a teacher than it is to run for President. //heyooo |

WhippingBoy: Why do so many ugly people read/write erotica. Don't they realize that it creeps the rest of us out? Because if they were beautiful people they'd be in pictures. Like the redheads on my left hand monitor going at it right now. I doubt they've read a book more than 200 pages. |

WhippingBoy: Why do so many ugly people read/write erotica. Don't they realize that it creeps the rest of us out? That's pretty far from ugly. Not a 10 by any means, but a good solid 5, or 6 depending on bod. |

| K.B.O. Winston This is why a lot of smart people will never become teachers. 'Oh, so you also reserve the right to fire me for things I do under a pen name in my off hours? Hmm, let's see... Yeah, go fark yourself.' Teaching as a concept appeals to me. Teaching in practice looks like volunteering to spend a good chunk of your life with a dysfunctional family. |

Right? IMO, the guy arrested in the park is out irrespective of his partner's proclivities, because now he's got a criminal record and is probably on a sex offender registry (dumb but true). Everyone else is just doing what they do in their free time. It'd might get embarrassing for someone with 18 year old students to work in a strip club though. |

My wife is both a high school English teacher and a writer. It's really scary to think that something she writes during her down-time could get her fired from her job. Granted, she's writing fiction stories based on Greek mythology and not erotic novels. Safe, I suppose. |

Hey, come be a teacher and do a wonderful civic duty! Difficulty: more people will hate you than you will ever know. And should you do something even remotely un-teacher-like...like, I dunno, breathing...we will fire your ass so hard. |
