I just recently went to the see MLK monument for the first time. The monument itself (the stone mountain with a slice out of it, and on the back of the offset slice is MLK, looking out over the water) is pretty cool; the statue of MLK is downright offensive. He looks angry (I'ma shank you angry), and shifty (he's looking off sideways), and like a racist parody by someone who had never seen a black person. I had to pull up a picture on my phone to check - nope, his lips really weren't that big, nor his nose so broad. And the stance, so weird. It made a lot more sense when I found out that the sculptor was a Communist Chinese sculptor - that was it exactly, it looked like a Communist Chinese sculpture. And apparently the sculptor really HADN'T met any black people before. How that sculpture got chosen, I have no idea. It was awful.

Ugh. They just need to scrap the sculpture and start over. Please.

Where I work one of the recently deceased professors was honored with a special gold medallion in his name which has his portrait on it. He's white, but looks Asian on the medallion. And the gold (or is it "gold"?) is flaking off.

Made in China! It's probably 90% lead, 10% melamine.
