Lidl had expected to hand out about 1,000 of the 20-euro dinner packs, consisting of tomato soup, vol-au-vents with chips, an ice-cream cake and chocolates, a spokesman for the German-based company's Belgium unit said on Wednesday. What if the poor don't like voles? |

mkmcco03: Good for them. I am happy to see a company step up and honor their commitment. Indeed. I feel like an American supermarket chain would have claimed the whole thing was bogus and delivered 0 dinners. Good for these guys! |

Man, if you crazy bastards had gotten a hold of this on Monday, imagine the damage that could have been done. /joking aside...good for them to honor and round it up to 10k. It'll be great pub for them, and they are doing a really good thing. |

Wonder how many of these homeless drove there in their new BMW. You dont get rich by buying food. |

chumbucket: And what percentage of those funds are raised at the register, a'la "Would you like to donate $5 to cancer awareness today?" What has that got to do with anything? All of their money comes from transactions at the register; that's likely their only source of revenue. Would you rather they built the $5 into their food prices, or that they let you volunteer to pay it if and when you want? |

One is the customer donating from their personal funds (the store just acts as a proxy), the other is the corporation donating out of their profits. |

filter: Lidl: makes Aldis seem posh. I kind of liked the Lidl I frequented while on a business trip to Barcelona. I had to describe it to family as Sam's Club-quantities in a store with the footprint of a 7-11. |

I used to work at a Lidl so I'm getting a kick. Not really, didn't enjoy my time there. Good for them though. |

In-kind donations means food that is spoiled or about to spoil, in most cases. Food banks get tons of food past the best-before date, and the company then uses the in-kind donation receipt as a tax write-off. that is all a very effective system, but it is not the sort of donations that compare to this Twitter campaign. |

Zion21: This is good for the company if they actually go through with it. Great publicity and now a lot more people will know their name. [tipgnome.com image 15x15] I think they will, because, FTFA: By the end of the 24-hour campaign, 1,500 people had tweeted, meaning Lidl has to deliver 7,500 dinners. That sparked reports the supermarket had been caught out by its campaign. To quash such talk, Lidl rounded up the number of dinners to 10,000, and branded the campaign a success. |

Last week at Dick's s Sporting Goods they sked if you were interested in donating just $1.00 to Children's Hospital. I saw people buying $100's to $1,000's in junk and never saw one person say yes /true spirt of giving and helping in action //I gave $50 ///yes my child was helped by children's Hospital |

| Radak I'm normally not a fan of Lidl (except when I need really cheap beer), but kudos to them. I'll stop by this afternoon and buy some more really cheap beer. /probably would have anyway |
