I was about to ask where in the hell these people are in the Western world, but apparently 100,000 Americans suffer from this condition. This is apparently just a helluva bad case of it, coupled with what I'm assuming is nonexistent health care and wildly unsanitary living.

Wow. I'm not real compassionate as a rule, but these people being able to find each other, and happiness is humbling. I hope this child remains free of the disease her dad has and I wish them well. It's rural Afghanistan. She's like 20 years younger than him and their marriage was arranged by families. She had no choice in the matter, but a husband with a deformity is likely the best a girl with one leg can expect to get. He's probably just surprised he ever got to marry, I doubt he expected it'd ever happen looking like that. Not saying their marriage sucks but "happiness" is not the expected standard in some places.

I'm torn between saying, "that's the kind of wife you get when you have no face" and, "that's the kind of husband you get when you have one leg". Well, they're happy so it's something to be congratulated.

Still, I'm feeling 28% better about my life after seeing that.

I'd guess the marital customs in Jammu aren't far out from those nearby, but these people don't necessarily have much affinity for those in Afghanistan (who themselves suffer from a chronic inability to reconcile their ethnic groups).

The wife seems to have pretty decent teeth, which is surprising. Better than a large number of Americans anyway whom have access to pretty advanced dental care, like a toothbrush and floss.

Likely, she doesn't take Coke with her burger and fries. Sugar is pretty cheap in nearby Punjab (or was when I lived there) but it might be much more expensive that far up the road. They're bound to be a pretty robust people up there, being on the Darwinian Health Care Plan (i.e. the weak go into the ground).
