| Lucky LaRue "The man just blew up into a fire ball," Kirtley said. "I surely don't know if he was electrocuted or even alive." Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. |

| nekom "Our [insurance] deductible is $5,000. This robbery is going cost the church a lot." And the theives would have made off with... what, 20 bucks worth of copper? CSB: My dad knew a guy who tried to steal copper wire from electrical towers. Not sure if it was the thousands of volts or the 70 foot fall that did him in. |
||
| ZAZ Our security alarms went off at 2 a.m. on Wednesday and that's when our church member Homer Pate notified the Harris County Sheriff's department of the robbery Technically a burglary rather than a robbery. |

As God is my witness, I thought copper couldn't fry. |
||
| St_Francis_P He's probably moved on to stealing tires from moving vehicles. |
||
| MaudlinMutantMollusk Well, he won't do THAT again |
||
| BKITU Just goes to show that even if you evade the police... *SUNGLASSES* ... the copper still gets you! |

"He watches over the good and the bad... whether this was god smackin' 'im... I mean, who knows?" I do. I know. It's not the god that'll kill you. It's the amps. |

Anyone who tries to steal live wires needs to be dead, and removed from the human gene pool. |

See, if this kind of stuff happened more often (and by "this stuff" I mean being stochastically hoist with their own petard), like say to Lloyd Blankfein or Larry Summers, I might actually start believing in the supernatural again. |

Hebrews 10:30 I have to admit when I saw Texas I was like, "that's a rare crime" but then I saw Houston and said, "ok yeah now it makes more sense". |

[image.retrojunk.com image 320x240] It's not the voltage that gets you. It's the amps. Isn't it some of both? If there were 100 amps and 0.000001 volts, it seems like it wouldn't be able to penetrate your skin. |

To double down on the stupidity of all these thieves mentioned: all the lines up on the poles are aluminum. Copper is heavy and expensive, and so isn't used outside of buildings/homes except for in transformers. |

![]() "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you." |
||
| Seasons I'v Withered
That's going to be a costly repair. Now they're going to have to stretch all new line from the box all the way to the top of the pole. That shait can't be spliced . $5000 deductible -- The insurance company's laughing cause the about how much that's going to cost. frigging thieves |
||
| The Irresponsible Captain I may not always agree with a church, but stealing from a church is pretty low. I think they got off easy, and it hopefully struck some "fear of god" into them. |

I take my aluminum cans in to the scrap metal place once a year, and I was surprised this year by all the security changes added since last year here in Florida. They already had my driver's license on file, but needed to make another copy since I hadn't been there in 2012. This year they required my vehicle plate numbers, I couldn't just tell them what the numbers were they had to go out and look for themselves. And I had to leave a thumbprint on a scanning machine. Used to be you could get in and out in about five minutes if there was nobody ahead of you; now it takes about twenty minutes. |

We had problems with scrap thieves the past few winters where I work. Then a guy was found dead under a car in the next county over with the catalytic converter cut half off and a malfunctioning bottle jack. We haven't had scrap thieves this winter so far. /csb |

TheGreatGazoo: Why can't they do this at the Westboro Baptist Church? Well, first it was the thieves that got hurt, not the church-goers. Plus, I think Westboro needs more of a "Timothy McVeigh" approach...remote control a full-sized truck right through the front door - flatten the entire church and everyone inside. It's a win-win because earth will be rid of these assf*cks and they all get to go to heaven! |

Brian Ryanberger: Laugh now in you liberal ivory towers but when Obama gets his way and makes America marxist we will all be left with nothing but stealing but he is probably going to legalize that too because it would be better for everyone to steal than to simply admit that marxism is wrong. Don't steal, the government hates competition. |

Love it when thieves try to steal electrical components from live equipment. Instant karma. |
