A couple weeks ago I saw a lengthy tumblr post by a Salvation Army shelter worker that said that nobody prevents anyone from getting food at shelter based on sexual orientation and the boots on the ground don't care. It is just the top brass whose old and cranky, and going to retire soon, so it doesn't matter. But now I can't find it, because tumblr.

In my area, some of the Salvation Army people were among the first to help AIDS patients abandoned by their families.
So calling every person who helps out with the Salvation Army a 'bigot' is a tad extreme, no?

I am done donating money to any religious charities whatsoever at this point. Makes it a lot easier to avoid mistakenly giving my money to organizations with primitive values. Plenty of other groups out there who can use the money and won't try and use it to oppress minority groups.

That being said, it's such a farking shame they are that way. I'm an atheist, so I'm also not into their whole belief thing...but they do try to do a lot of good, and they do accomplish good things. But I won't give them a farking penny until they stop with their bigotry.

Terrorist organizations will do things to help the down trodden as well. This doesn't change the fact that when they're not doing that they're a bunch of murdering psychopaths.

The Salvation Army will do things to help the down trodden but will also use their power and influence for various hardline Christian causes, such as denying equal rights to homosexuals.

Yet to me the fact that they will accept and then basically trash some things almost bothers me more... If you donate a Harry Potter toy for instance they will smile and nod, hand you the receipt, then take the evil devil spawn toy 'away' somewhere. I would imagine there are plenty of kids that would be delighted to have such an item and if the SA doesn't want it they can just say so when you bring it in.
