This has happened in my town although the teens screwed themselves over from the start. They were on the hwy and their first paintball was shot at the windshield of an off duty officer.

No that would just make for an awesome free for all battle

They should come try this in North Carolina.... where everyone would shoot back with real guns.

Throw the book at them. Paintball is the safest sport today, but only when people are wearing masks and the markers are chronographed below a certain FPS. What these kids did could have very easily blinded someone, and quite possibly killed someone (if they fell and hit their head due to confusion).

Idiots like this give paintball a bad name, and lead to knee-jerk reactions from politicians.

A non-fatal shooting in Hillyard? Things are looking up in this town.

No Time To Explain
Clearly the shooter has blue balls, because you'd have to have those to be pulling a aunt like this

/everyone should be armed to the teeth with paintball guns, a bad guy with a paintball gun can only be stopped by a good guy with a paintball gun
//and using red balls, the red makes them go faster

I doubt it is the safest sport by a long shot but it's not exactly the most dangerous of them either.
Either way, the people that were marked were not participants in a sport, they were victims of a bunch of idiot kids.

If you go by injuries requiring a trip to the ER or Hospital, Paintball is the safest sport. It is far safer than bowling. Just because you get bruises doesn't mean it isn't safe.

Hrmmp. I was shot with paintballs while riding my bike home on Delaware Ave. in Philly one afternoon. They were caught by a traffic light, so I caught up with the 4 of them in their shiatty blue Dodge Neon, got their license number, etc. Grabbed a policeman, he shrugged, showed no interest, got home, gave the plate number to my town police, they did nothing...

What is less safe? Assuming the field is well maintained the odds of getting injured are pretty low. They're comparing against pretty serious long last repetitive motion injuries that occur in even the most non-violent sports. If the general safety precautions are followed it wouldn't at all surprise me that it's the safest sport.

Well it depends on what you classify as a playing field. There are speedball courses which are essentially just a field with inflatables all over the place for cover. There are also playing fields that are in the woods with permanent structures for cover. Even on a well maintained field the possibilities of twisting an ankle or breaking a wrist are present. I'm not saying that it is deadly dangerous but the sport has many risks other than being shot. There is a lot of running involved as well and I have seen people succumb to heat exhaustion before during competitions.

I'd venture a guess that chess or swimming in a supervised pool are by far the safest sports if you are looking at injuries requiring a hospital visit.

Apparently there were over 300,000 horse riding injuries last year. Horse riding serves no purpose but to injure 300,000 people a year.

Ban horse riding!

FYI.

A good hit to the windshield with any good heavy object would produce a spiderweb pattern right over the driver. Hitting it with your fist, the side like when you slam your fist down on the table, will produce these results with no injury to yourself.

Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2009, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, more than 30% died from drowning.1,2 Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.2 Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects).1 Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.1

Ban drowning.

Well, if we put pools in everyone's yards then drownings wouldn't occur.

I was going to ask if this merits a felony assault charge, and after reading that, I guess it does....

/ never played paintball, so I didn't really know that.
// since these teens are legally adults, that felony charge will screw them over, employment-wise....

Try it down here in texas as well -- I'd shoot back with my Springfield Armory xd 9 sub compact. Licensed CHL holder here. When you only have a split second to react to someone firing something at you and all you feel is massive burning/stinging... I'd happily argue that lethal force is authorized.

I've played paintball a time or two - with protective gear you are pretty safe. If you were to just walk up to some random person on the street and start firing a gun that's not calibrated, on someone who's just wearing a tshirt they could very seriously be hurt/blinded/hit their head when falling.

Put them in jail for felony assault - if they are under age sue the crap out of their parents for raising such pieces of shiat.

Personally I (hopefully) see the big picture as pretty soon - society is going to swing fast and hard to crack down on any and all violence. I don't know about you but i'm tired of seeing the same people or groups of people stealing and hurting other people and getting away with it. There's so much crap in the world already - why should we allow more?

Serious competitive swimming can cause repetitive stress injuries. Damage to the rotator cuff is particularly common. You can also be injured if you botch a start or a flip turn, or if you collide with another swimmer in your lane during training.

It's still pretty safe, but I'm not sure it's the safest. On my high school team, we had a lot of people who were starting to have problems with their shoulders by their senior year.

Couple of kids were doing this here a few years back. Thing is, they specifically targeted Alaska Natives, and recorded themselves yelling racial slurs while shooting them.

They were absolutely STUNNED at the extreme shiatstorm that came down around them when caught.

Yes, it really is the safest outdoor sport: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintball #Safety_statistics

There's a report by the National insurance board saying the same thing but I can't find it at the moment. Basically, it has the lowest injury rates per player. Mostly because you aren't allowed anywhere near the field without a proper mask, and you're never allowed to come into physical contact with the other players.

Kids shooting pedestrians makes the whole sport look bad.

Well if we are considering Paintball a sport, I guess that really opens up options on safe sports.
