LINCOLN PARK - A boy learned that a $100 bill he got from a relative for Christmas was counterfeit.

I know what he'll do now.

The boy went to Mobil, 4140 Fort St., at about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 30 to get change for the bill. After the teller gave the boy change, he tested the bill with a marker, which resulted in a positive reading for counterfeit.

Gas stations accept $100 bills? Bullshiat.
People give change for $100 bills BEFORE checking them? Bullshiat.
The kid is out getting change at 10:30 PM? Bullshiat.

Whole lot of Bullshiat going on in TFA.

If one of those starch-detecting pens can detect, it was almost certainly a lousy counterfeit. The Secret Service consider them little better than useless.

What a good counterfeit $100 may look like.

but in the end it doesn't really matter, cause it's counterfeit

FTFA: An officer tested it with three different markers; all revealed it was a forgery. It was confiscated.

Um, those markers are... not reliable. All they do is test for the presence of starch. Real bills are actually a form of cloth and don't have any, but paper used in forgeries often does. But it is certainly possible to get a real bill that tests positive for starch- for instance if you washed the bil., or deliberately sprayed it with spray starch. (Like some people are rumored to do, just to shake things up.)

tl;dr::counterfeit detector pens don't really work, and cops shouldn't confiscate money based on them

/isn't the Secret Service called for counterfeits?

An overgrown zygote
Got him a C-note
And Christmas was all the more fun
But the clerk wouldn't cash it
And the cops came and snatched it
And now the poor zygote has none

The pen test doesn't mean shait. So maybe the uncle used some spray starch and ironed a old folded bill so it would be crisp like a new bill. I doubt the cop looked for the watermark or strip and ended up confiscating the kids real $100 bill. Thank God that the uncle didn't give the kid a stack of $2 bills.

Also it looks like some farkers have posted in the comments already.

Interesting read. That article has me thinking that the CIA is producing fake currency, using it to engage in various illegal operations around the world, then cracking down on the people they gave it to, because it's counterfeit, as well as using it to ferret out other illegal trade channels.

About a year ago I recieved an older $20 bill from an ATM. I had to take it back to my CU as store clerks even older than me (33) were dubious of it. When the CU teller tested it with one of those pens, it marked ''funny'', but they still took it back.

The teller waited until the transaction was complete to actually check the bill? The first thing I do when I'm handed anything over a 20 is hold it up to the light and get a glimpse of the watermark.

And they're not going to bother getting the name of the relative who gave that to him and questioning them?

He prolly has six siblings with a total of seven babbydaddys, and the "gift" was from "a cousin".

Oh, I'm sure there are guns.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist in the sense that I actively believe all of these things, but I enjoy completely fabricating scenarios, like, say "Evidence has been discovered that the CIA has been using counterfeit money seized from around the world (supplemented with other fake money they themselves print) to purchase billions of dollars worth of black market heroin (implicitly and knowledgeably directly funding terrorism) which they then process in a number of ways, including but not limited to introduction of agents directly attributable to causing sterility, cancer, and death. This heroin is resold into specific markets that the CIA wants to influence the development of, while (easily) suppressing information about local effects. Profits from this enterprise (and it is unabashedly a for profit enterprise) are doled out legitimately through shell companies who hire, pay, and fire these "independent contractors" within a day."

I had a friend in Jr.High.
My father asked him what his father did.
He said his father was salesman for Crane & Co.
My father wa s a commercial artist and worked with many printers, and immediately said, "They make the paper for US money."
My friend (and I) had no idea, but Papa was right.

I probably should have rephrased the question, as there are quite a few definitions of boofer according to the UD, and since I can submit my own definition of a boofer as the mom of a dude that goes by the Fark handle 'gweilo8888' on the internet. I am wondering what Benjimin_Dover's idea of a boofer is.

Little known fact, folks.  Your standard homeowners and renters insurance policies have a clause that indemnifies you for any loss  due to counterfiet bills, up to $500 and no deductable..

Not that you are likely to ever need that, but...

We're talking Lord God King Boofoo.
I am so sure. He's like, so gross.
He like, sits there and, like, plays with all his rings
And he, like, flirts with all the guys in the class
It's, like, totally disgusting
I'm, like, so sure
It's, like, barf me out. Gag me with a spoon!

Hope that clears things up.

Just a guess, but, oh, I don't know... maybe the urbandictionary definition that's the most common one, and has the lowest ratio of down votes to up votes of any with more than a handful of votes.

Your bullshiat detector needs some calibration. When's the last time you saw a public gas station that didn't have a snack shop attached? And have you bought gas lately? Of course they accept large bills. The cheapest place near me was $4.539/gallon yesterday. My littlest vehicle costs almost $50 to fill up. My RV is closer to $350. With all the skimmers out there these days, you're playing Russian Roulette using a card at the pump. One local station is in the news once or twice a year for skimmers in the pumps.

I worked for a bank equipment company in the 90s that sold and serviced currency processing equipment including counterfeit detecting currency counters.
Got to see six $100 bills that were passed at a mall at Christmas time and made it through three branch banks before being detected at the main vault. By the notes on the strap they could tell what branch took the initial deposit but could not nail it down to an individual store at the mall.
The quality of the bills were excellent and had passed through at least 4 sets of hands before they were detected because they lacked the magnetic inks used to print real bills. The bank suspected they bleached out $1 bills to get the paper then reprinted them. the bank was out $600 but would have gladly tossed it back on the customer if they knew who it was.

A boofer as used in this instance is a person who has a car...

...a car
...a car that goes...

BOOF
BOOF BOOF
ba BOOF

Say it out loud and with the proper cadence, and you can picture the demographic immediately. I'm on a tab or I'd slide in a few pics to assist. But you could prolly watch Jersey Shore or In Living Color and find ample examples.
