| mr_a If the school district has enough funding to get their solicitor, who probably clocks in at $250/hr, involved in this nonsense, then they have way too much money on their hands. |

| DrPainMD FTA: "Attorney Robin Ficker says Mount Carmel Area School District officials labeled the girl a "terrorist threat" for the bubble gun remark, made Jan. 10 as both girls waited for a school bus." Ya know, if I got called to jury duty, and the case involved somebody killing this lawyer or the school administrator who made the suspension decision, I would have to vote not guilty. The planet would be so much better without those people. |

| dbirchall mr_a: If the school district has enough funding to get their solicitor, who probably clocks in at $250/hr, involved in this nonsense, then they have way too much money on their hands. I suspect the family lawyered up with Ficker, and the school had no choice but to throw Greco some money. But yeah, both sides are probably being stupid. Though I suppose missing 10 days of kindergarten could set their precious snowflake's life into some sort of downward spiral of drugs, violence and all that other nasty stuff. Oh, and Ficker? Seriously? Your ancestors got to Ellis Island and it didn't occur to them to tell the nice immigration people they wanted a name that was something other than German for "farker?" So we've got Farker vs. the Greek. Great. Somebody here is gonna take it up the ass. |

What's the problem here? If everyone had soap-bubble guns, the school would be a safer place. |
||
| ReverendJasen Those bubble guns are fully automatic too. They'll keep shooting as long you hold the trigger down. Add to that, the amount of soapy water they hold is far greater than any standard handgun. It's like having a 1000 round clip in the thing! Please for the safety of elementary schools everywhere, join me in support of bublegun regulations. No one but a criminal needs an automatic bubblegun with unlimited rounds. |

School systems should be run by intelligent, rational-thinking individuals. As long as we continue to take the easy and lazy way out put these low-IQ morons and two-bit "sleazy car salesmen" politicians in the position of running the education system, we'll see these absolutely bonehead decisions over and over. |

Madman drummers bummers: What's the problem here? If everyone had soap-bubble guns, the school would be a safer place. ^^^Oh boy here we go Getting crazy in this country for sure. My son is almost 4 now, so I'm a a point where I have to make a decision about where he's going to go to school. Private, catholic, or regular government school. My wife wants the catholic school because of what they offer/price. I think a reg school is fine..saves money which is tight anyways, plus I'd rather him have the diversity. I worry about shiat like this though...just yesterday I asked him what he did at daycare/preschool.."I made shapes and things with marshmallows"...oh what did you make?.. "I made a gun"..It was weird but I made guns when I was little too I have no idea away he said that other than that he likes to mess with people. I don't even own a gun(though not against)..but I'm a bit concerned this may get him thrown the fark out of a regular elementary school..the little wise guy that he is...he's like a 3 yr old sarcastic snarky Farker . I'm sure there have been examples when kids have gotten into trouble like that in private/catholic schools too though so who knows |

Times are certainly changing. A generation ago, bullied five year old's would've had to swallow their emotions, leading to farked up and frustrated lives. Nowadays, with our twenty-four hour coverage of mass shootings, we've given these kids role models and infomercials on how to execute crowds of people. I'd say that guns are probably harder to get a hold of now than they were twenty, thirty years ago due to the gun safety campaigns. It's the understanding that these things can be done that's made the difference. The news coverage of these things has had a porn-effect on society. Remember when you were a kid and could jerk off to some scrap of magazine you randomly found on the side of the road, probably thrown out by some trucker? Then one day you get a hold of a full magazine and think you've made it. Next, it's a worn out VHS porno from your dad's stint in the Navy with poor tracking. Then it's a live sex show in Amsterdam. With the internet, you can now progress much faster through the perversion process. Bottom line - you can't go back and be satisfied with that roadside scrap of paper. It's the same thing with murder and the media. It used to be that a fist fight would make the news. I remember when a single shooting would make the paper, the television, and the radio. The media wore it out though, especially as we transitioned from network to cable news. A single shooting just doesn't have any entertainment value to the public anymore, unless it's someone noteworthy. Small scale shootings don't get airtime. Mass killings, especially the "this can happen to you at any time or place variety", are now the only things interesting enough to raise our interest sensors. Anything less is just noise. The problem with this is that we'll never be able to go back to being satisfied with a stabbing, a single, shooting, a small act of violence. And what's worse is that the mass killings are going to wear off eventually too. We'll need something even more shocking to get our attention. And the killers of the planet are just as susceptible to this influence as anyone else. They know that it's not enough anymore to just kill your mother and yourself and call it a day. You've got to suit up in complete body armor and go down to the elementary school. It's not that one group is all to blame - not just the media, not just the public, not just the killers - it's a feedback loop, a system, a nuclear reaction. The only thing that can stop it is complete destruction, which will come in time. In ten years, I wouldn't be surprised if town-wide poisonings, radioactive dirty bombs, nerve gas attacks from private aircraft - the next steps up - will be the norm. There's just no way it's going to get better. Society is suicidal and it knows it. That's why it reacts so strongly with fear and over-compensation when a little girl brings a bubble gun to school and threatens a classmate. Society knows, deep down inside, that the world is pointless and absurd and there's no value to life other than being alive. It wants to kill itself, though it's young enough in its lifespan that this thought still scares it. |

When contacted by the media these schools always say "We can't comment on ongoing discipline cases....:" If you were the parent can you legally absolve them of that burden so they can comment? I guess what I'm getting at is if this was my kid and I brought the press in, the very first thing I would do is sign a document waiving my (kids) confidentiality rights for this issue then give copies to every TV station and Newspaper in the area so they can go to the school and ask them why the think a 5-year old should be labeled a "terrorist threat". In short "Please explain yourself Mr. Potatohead..." |

I read an article written by a federal prosecutor who says that if he followed ANYBODY for a month, he could send that person to prison for at least 20 years. So there's that. |
