Wow, and I thought the one in RI was bad. I can't believe it's been 10 years since that happened. |

| Abe Vigoda's Ghost So is anyone left alive to read this? Am I the last person left alive? |

Really sad, people need to stop using pyrotechnics in small clubs. |

Great White brought in for questioning. |

Blow up a night club with pyrotechnics once, shame on me. Blow up a night club with pyrotechnics again, once bitten twice shy /I'm not very good at this |

justoneznot: Really sad, people need to stop using pyrotechnics in small clubs. Or people need to stop covering the walls and ceilings with extremely flammable material. Or both. |

Was the nightclub named Em Chamas? |

From the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-2122 0308 They say the fire began when a band on stage started a fireworks display at the Kiss nightclub in the city of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul state. A reporter at the scene told local radio that the nightclub had a capacity for up to 2,000 people and was believed to be full on a Saturday night. Thick smoke engulfed the venue after acoustic insulation caught fire, officials say. I'm noticing a trend here.... |
||
| stratagos I'm surprised none of the "hot young Brazilian clubgoer" headlines made it. |

"I just got out because I'm very strong, they died because they were weak." he said. |

Derwood: Blow up a night club with pyrotechnics once, shame on me. Blow up a night club with pyrotechnics again, /I'm not very good at this FTFY /It's a saying down in Texas...maybe in Tennessee...but definitely Texas |

Too bad Funky Claude wasn't there to save the day. That's a lot of people that probably died mostly because of panic. |
||
| cretinbob this headline sucks |

After the RI disaster the fire safety codes changed dramatically, I foresee a similar update in Brazil's future. |
||
| FriarReb98 Mrtraveler01: Wow, and I thought the one in RI was bad. I can't believe it's been 10 years since that happened. Same here. Actually played there a few times, and to this day I still don't know how it feels to be so goddamned dumb that lighting anything larger than a lighter on that stage was a GOOD idea. Hell, never mind the whole "flammable walls" thing, you could touch the light rigs while you played! \and don't get me started on the fire inspectors, they deserved prison time as much as everyone else |

Silverstaff: My God. . .how many people are in a Brazillian? As many people as the loose whore lets in! /Ba-dum-tssh. //My apologies to all the non-Brazillian loose whores that joke offended. |

Ezekiel Corte Real, 23, was quoted by the paper as saying that he helped people to escape. "I just got out because I'm very strong," he said. I have no doubt that this guy has uttered the phrase "Come at me Bro!!" at some point. |

| badhatharry This is scary. Always scope the out exits. I try not to be too far from them in a crowded building. |

| Uchiha_Cycliste Great reporting... "He said at least 200 people were injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known, officials said. The total number of victims is still unclear and there may be hundreds injured," |

Uchiha_Cycliste: Great reporting... "He said at least 200 people were injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known, officials said. The total number of victims is still unclear and there may be hundreds injured," BENGHAZI!!!! |
||
| Uchiha_Cycliste snark aside, this is horrible. I've never once considered something like this happening to me, And I've been to raves before where there were 20,000-30,000 stuffed in on one dance floor (like at the Staples Center) on New years eve. |

||
| Uchiha_Cycliste They even had fireworks inside the Staples Center, with multiple tens of thousands of us all packed in there. Jesus,... |
||
| skinink
Regarding the RI disaster, I read somewhere that a lot of people died in the doorway of the club because as people tried to escape the fire, they would fall/accidentally get pushed down. Then the people in back of them would fall on top of them. |

Uchiha_Cycliste: They even had fireworks inside the Staples Center, with multiple tens of thousands of us all packed in there. Jesus,... Yes, but I will guarantee you that the Staples Center isn't insulated with flammable material and that they didn't set off fireworks next to it. It's one thing to do it in a sports arena, it's another to do it in a regular sized building. |
||
| FriarReb98 Kyosuke: Or people need to stop covering the walls and ceilings with extremely flammable material. The problem is, despite the full knowledge that said materials could save lives, they still charge a ton for them. IIRC, it would've cost the Derderians about $350-400k to soundproof the main room at The Station, and that was for maaybe 2000 square feet of soundproofing, ten years ago. (None of which would've worked, BTW - they still had solarium windows in the pool room directly off the main floor.) |

Yes, but I will guarantee you that the Staples Center isn't insulated with flammable material and that they didn't set off fireworks next to it. It's one thing to do it in a sports arena, it's another to do it in a regular sized building. That's all true. But if (god forbid) something did somehow go wrong and a big ire did break out... I mean, we are squeezed in there like sardines on the main dance floor, especially at midnight. |

| Mr. Coffee Nerves In a strange way it actually pays to be a hipster. If your favorite band is a one-armed Mongolian who atonally throws discarded batteries against overstretched rubber cargo tie-downs while reciting "Mr. Belvedere" scripts with the punctuation removed and he only plays "pop-up" gigs in the kitchens of abandoned Arthur Treacher's franchises, you can be fairly sure your life will be panicked-trampling resistant. |

Then the people in back of them would fall on top of them. 40 out of the 100 that died there died in the exit hallway, or directly leading into it. At least a few of those deaths are also retraceable to Great White & the security dumbasses who blocked the stage door for a minute or two before realizing they were in trouble. |

Derwood: Was it In the Still of the Night? +/- ![]() /not equal...yes its early so I probably did not get the joke.... //hair band... |

| Charlie Freak I have played many gigs in which I was keenly aware I would be trapped if a fire were to break out. |
