||
| Lsherm Well, certainly not this. I've been hearing about this kid for a while, but they are keeping the wraps on exactly how his test works. Does it work as well as he claims? Is there a possibility for false positives? |

Is there a possibility for false positives? Everything has false positives. You always want second opinions. If the rate is low, a few people being scared for a little while is well worth saving many more lives. /just speaking theoretically here, don't know the stats on this particular test |

It's not too crazy. He has a dipstick mesothelin indicator for pancreatic cancer and the other diseases are just hypotheticals. |

Massa Damnata: Great job, 3 cents a test and 5 mins to run. I wonder which pharmaceutical company will buy him out and make it disappear....yeah i'm probably too cynical That was my thought too. Though it sounds like this kid doesn't plan to sell to a pharma co. I read articles like this and I think about my 18 year old - who's so damn smart it's freaky scary but won't even motivate himself to take a freaking shower or do the bare minimum in school and I want to cry. |

I mean, it's testing for a marker in the blood, but does that marker show up for reasons other than pancreatic cancer? |

Lsherm: I mean, it's testing for a marker in the blood, but does that marker show up for reasons other than pancreatic cancer? That's what a hypothetical second test would be for. I had a benign tumor, first suspected by a doctor due to physical symptoms, first test was a blood test because it's cheap and will eliminate most negatives, the second confirmation was an MRI. |

I wonder if the kid will be getting a big fat payday for his creation? Hopefully he'll get royalties or something. If his test is as revolutionary as it sounds, he certainly deserves to be rich. |

Atomic Spunk: I wonder if the kid will be getting a big fat payday for his creation? Hopefully he'll get royalties or something. If his test is as revolutionary as it sounds, he certainly deserves to be rich. I think it might unfortunately boil down to biotech patent law as he actually hasn't innovated a new tech as much as combining preexisting methods. Which would totally suck for him of course but might spur a future great mind. |
