Either my landlord is knowingly harboring fugitives of the law or she just assumes that (Future Mr. Mouse) just took in his wider'd sister. |

Maybe subby thinks Virginia is a city in Massachusetts. |

SevenizGud: Maybe subby thinks Virginia is a city in Massachusetts. Seriously. We're the state that forced the Supreme Court once and for all to decide on whether or not mixed race couples could marry and live with one another. Spoiler alert: Virginia lost that decision. |

Still a law here in Florida too. Before my wife and I were married, we lived in 2 separate apartment complexes that never even brought up the issue. You know they're not going to turn away business. Seems the only people who would care are people who have noisy neighbors and wish to punish them |

Virginia must have a lot of studio and 1-bedroom apartments if having room mates is against the law. |

So, now can we have a Virginia tag? 'cause this place is Bat shiat Crazy if there ever was such a place. The good news is that we are about to export our BSC governor to the rest of the country...enjoy, and...you're welcome. |

Squawky: Virginia must have a lot of studio and 1-bedroom apartments if having room mates is against the law. Oh, something fun I learned in college, most areas in VA still have laws on the books that more than 2 or 3 women cannot live together alone because it would constitute as a brothel. Unless they had a House a Mother. But wouldn't that make it worse? Anyway, my sister found out that one when she and some girlfriends tried renting a house together and were unlucky enough to find a landlord who actually cited this law as to not rent to them. |

Virginia isn't really that Bat Guano Crazy or the home of weird news like Florida. We also are afforded the good fortune of having some of the best institutions in the country and one of the most educated cluster of districts in the country to dilute the amount of "Hold my beer and watch this" populations in the state. However, what we do have are crazy conservative politicians who shame us but I don't consider it enough to denote our own tag. Even if we did end up mailing crocheted vaginas to our state legislature. (Might be NSFW if your cube mate has a stick up their tush) |

" See this is one of the reasons that church and state should be kept seperate. As soon as any person in the position to make decision on laws uses God as an argument, they should be immediately thrown from office. This is something that this country has completely lost sight of. I remember reading about a political race in Australia where the candidate mentioned that God was on his side. He got laughed out of the room. That, to me, makes much more sense. |

Is this one of those laws that everyone is/was obligated to follow simply because it was enacted by a majority of lawmakers, who quite possibly represented the true will of the majority of the people at the time? |

Wow, Virginia is like Dubai (and substancial portions of the Middle East)? How progressive. Friend of mine rented a place (in Dubai) to a couple from Europe, found out they weren't married (so cohabitating is against the law there), got REALLY concerned when the woman got pregnant (the concern was "what if the hospital asks for a marriage license during prenatal checks or at delivery). Never heard of any problems since, so either the couple bulled their way through it, got married before the baby arrived or moved back to Europe. Just as well, pretty sure that anywhere with draconian laws like that would take a dim view of "aiding and abetting" sinful behaviour, I would have hated to fly out there for the purposes of trying to bail my friend out of jail for simply renting a house to a couple. CSHSS (cool second-hand story, sis) /seriously, the USA? //land of the free, home of the brave indeed |

I don't think NOVAns would at all mind not being saddled with the rest of Virginia... although the mountains ARE pretty. I think the rest of Virginia would miss NOVA though -- without NOVA, who would pay for those beautiful smooth roads that all Virginians get as a god-given right... except those of us paying most of the taxes? /Not that I'm bitter that I literally broke my car on potholes in NOVA //That was 10 years ago - that same stretch of road is still just as bad ///I sigh in nostalgia for the gorgeous roads in poor rural Virginia ////and the beautiful mountains //But not all the Confederate flags - where are we, backwater Alabama?? |

Darlene K. Davis, 73, told the Post a state inspector attempted to take away her day care license after learning that Davis had been living with her boyfriend for 16 years. "She said, 'You live in sin,'" Davis said. I'd like to meet this state inspector. She must be a genuinely kind-hearted person. /Can I cast the first stone? |

Now, I know that area is a disaster when it comes to driving and that 64 is utterly burdened and that they deserve to have more than one point of entry/exit to the shore. However the billions being sunk into that project seems to be pissing everyone north of Fredericksburg off. Don't even get me started on the cluster f*ck that's Tysons Corner now. |

NOVA can whine all they want but the money is supposed to come from the I-95 and I-64 toll slush fund. No tolls happen, no roads happen. In related news, Southside has become a 200 mile wide peninsula of North Carolina, with 'No Toll Roads' signs every half-mile. |

| gabba2 In VA, they don't investigate or do an autopsy on someone if they die in their own house. I assumed like most states that they would, but no. My Dad died and was creamated and it would have been nice to know exactly what he died from, and not just "some kind of heart attack". Damn backwards-ass hillbilly state. |

If I were living in sin in VA i'd totally feel guilty about breaking the law and my girlfriend and I would go straight to the police office to turn ourselves in. It would be even more fun if I was gay. Be all "My boyfriend and I have been cohabitating. In a romantic way. I'm talking penises in all orifices here, and sleeping in the same bed and mixing our laundry and everything." All couples who "not married to each other, lewdly and lasciviously associate and cohabit together" in VA should come clean right now, let the law do with them what it will, just to see what happens and have a laugh. |
